Quantity Surveyor - Dubai

SSA are recruiting on behalf of one of the largest Main contractors across the MENA region, that undertake a variety of works ranging from New Build Shopping Malls to Mixed use Hotel/Residential developments.

We are looking for a high performing/achieving experienced Commercial Manager to join a Construction and Property Development Company in Abu Dhabi & Dubai.

Company overview:
The company owns and manages an impressive portfolio of projects with values ranging from 300m USD to 2B USD. The company controls its supply chain from importing the products, off-site pre fabrication and direct labour from inception to completion of projects.
Projects are based all across MENA.

Full description:
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager that can manage all the commercial aspects of the company and shape future strategy and ways of working. The successful candidate will have to have a proven track record in delivery for similar organizations and will have managed a team of Quantity Surveyors.

Overview of role:
As a senior and integral member of the management team, the Commercial Manager will be expected to manage and be responsible for the commercial elements of projects from contract signature to final handover. The commercial manager will be assigned projects, and will be expected to deliver punctual budget control and profit levels. You will also be responsible for all aspects of other projects including and not limited to: Project Costing, Contractual Issues, variations and valuations, detailed design, quality assurance, claim management and customer satisfaction.

Principle responsibilities:
- Control and organise the work of a team of site quantity surveyors.
- Assist in developing and improving company procedures
- Ensure that subordinates conform to the Company procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of tenders where a good working knowledge of construction , market rates and methods is required
- Represent the Company at meetings, promote the correct Company image and ensure staff members are aware of their responsibilities in this area.
- Supervise the preparation of all outgoing estimates and variations, ensure that cost reports and applications are submitted monthly. Ensure the monthly financial forecast for each contract is correct and completed on time. produce monthly profit forecasts as per the actual turnover and margin figures.
- Ensure that contractual/claims correspondence is submitted on time and to a very good standard
- Ensure synchronization between the different company department and the commercial department such as account and procurement
- Maximise the profitability of all contracts. Monitor. report and take action to avoid a decline in the tender mark-up.
- Train subordinates and ensure they undertake training with their staff.

Requirements

- Substantial experience working as a site QS
- A multitude of experience with a main contractor working as a commercial manager from head office.
- Extensive working knowledge of industry standard forms of contract.
- Extensive experience of procurement strategies and activities.
- Experience in preparing and negotiating the legal and commercial aspects of sizeable construction contracts.
- Experience of dispute resolution, in particular adjudication and arbitration.
- Proven track record in introducing and policing company procedures
- Proven track record in management of surveyor and /or procurement staff

Personal specification:
Someone that can lead staff through example and be vocal points for knowledge and authority .We expect you to have excellent negotiation skills and you will need to be willing and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines. You will have to have a true passion for your work.
