Quantity Surveyor - Qatar

A quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to dewatering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. The role will seek to minimise the costs of a dewatering project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Many of these are specified by statutory building regulations, which the surveyor needs to understand and adhere to.

This position needs an involvement in a project from the start, preparing estimates & costs of the work and assisting with quotations/tendering. When the project is in progress, there is a great need to keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.

- Tasks vary depending on the contractual value and designs of the project being worked on and the point in the process it is at. Typical activities throughout the stages include but not limited to:
- Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the client
- Assisting with the review of sub-contract documents & negotiation of sub-contract terms & conditions
- Undertaking project costs analysis
- Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
- Performing risk, value management and cost control
- Advising on procurement strategy
- Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
- Preparing and analysing costs for tenders & assisting with submission/negotiation
- Allocating work to subcontractors
- Managing interactions with preferred Suppliers including ensuring our competitiveness through price negotiations
- Assisting with the preparation, submission & negotiation of contractual claims, including arranging and collation of required site records
- Predicting and analysing financial outcomes and writing detailed progress reports
- Maintain awareness of the operation and commercial situation of running projects
- Assisting with and overseeing the preparation of regular valuations for works undertaken or completed, and ensuring payment
- Maintaining awareness of the different contracts in current use
- Understand the implications of health and safety regulations

Requirements

- Surveying, Construction, and Civil Engineering
- Methodical way of thinking, good knowledge of construction practices, excellent problem solving skills, good financial and numeracy management skills, and highly proficient in spoken & written English
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- The ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily
- Flexibility to travel throughout the GCC, for extended periods at short notice
- Computer literate
