The Role


As a member of the Carbon area Reliability team, the Reliability Engineer is predominantly accountable for ensuring that the Carbon equipment meets production requirements. The Reliability Engineer is responsible for achieving production demands of the equipment through proper maintenance, preventative maintenance inspections and repairs. The Reliability Engineer evaluates equipment design and installation, gathers and analyzing machine data, evaluates and determines equipment failure modes, recommends and implements maintenance and repair strategies. The incumbent also identifies, supports and occasionally participates in the training and development needs of the maintenance artisan’s and staff in accordance with maintenance requirements. The incumbent identifies and supports maintenance needs in regards to set policies and procedures related to Maintenance Health, Safety and Environment issues. This position works closely with the project team organization and as needed provides technical assistance during the engineering, testing and commissioning phases of the Greenfield smelter project. This position has the Carbon Maintenance Analyst reporting directly to the incumbent.

List of activities:

• Conducts Failure Mode Effect Causes Analyzes (FMECA) and develop/implement/improve maintenance plans, spare parts strategies and operating/maintenance procedures for the Carbon Department.

• Identifies and updates equipment criticality based on production needs and maintenance schedules.

• Suggests new approaches for maintaining and improving plant standards and maintenance processes.

• Implement “best practices” while monitoring equipment performance. Investigates causes of losses and suggests corrective action plans.

• Reviews maintenance procedures to ensure quality, accuracy and efficiency.

• Plan, organize and coordinate equipment installation and major outages.

• Coordinate, participate and support project teams to solve technical problems in order to optimize productivity and minimize down time.

• Review preventive, predictive and periodic maintenance programs. Suggests improvements, ensures that the condition of the assets is maintained at the highest level possible utilizing “world’s best maintenance procedures”.

• Monitors the maintenance and repair of the Carbon equipment to ensure that the overhaul or replacement of the equipment is predicted, planned and budgeted.

• Provide technical support for maintenance crews and operations.

• Ensure new equipment is maintainable, documentation is complete, including spare parts and maintenance requirements, including lubrication is understood and communicated. Training is developed and implemented for the maintenance artisan’s relative to the new equipment.

• Manage and update maintenance technical documents & drawings.

• Identify and implement systematic reliability improvement approaches.

• Develop and manage the System Performance Testing.

• Manage the daily Reliability Meeting, participate and recommend reliability projects.

• Implement and control the Reliability indicators (OEE, MTBF, MTTR).

• Analyze production and maintenance issues, identify root causes through analysis, and recommend corrective solutions.

• Participate in the preparation of NRE, Capital and operating budgets for the Carbon Maintenance Department. Monitor the Carbon Department’s reliability/maintenance spending to ensure that the budgets do not go over.

• Ensure that the work of the Reliability Team is accomplished in accordance with the legal norms, professional standards and company policies which results in the highest standards possible.

• Periodically supervise maintenance trades in relief of the area supervisor. Responsible for weekend “on-call” coverage on a regular basis.

• Provide technical assistance to other departments such as Safety, Security and Environment as required.

• Degree in engineering discipline with 5 years relevant experience.

OR

• Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering with 7 years relevant experience.
