Reservoir Pumps Station Operation Engineer - Water Networks

Job description / Role

Job Details Core Functions:
Supervises and manages the efficient operation of at least 4 nos. reservoir stations inclusive of manpower, activities inside the reservoir stations, cleaning of reservoir sites and interconnection of any new mains inside the reservoir stations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares report on assigned reservoirs and sends all defects to Maintenance Section and General Services and follow-up the rectification of such defects.
2. Attends to any emergency call particularly after office hours regarding any problems related to the efficient operations of the assigned reservoirs. In order to carry-out this responsibility efficiently, a mobile allowance, standby allowance and maximum additional transport allowance to be provided.
3. Recommends an improvement on the existing operation system on the assigned reservoir stations and assists Pipe Engineer if required in any work related activities on the supervision of field activities and outline strategies relating to on-site distillate, rising or distribution main breakage.
4. Prepares and checks the monthly, quarterly and yearly operational report of Operations and submit to Senior Operations Engineer. Updates all related database information on the systems operations.
5. Prepares comments on any future systems expansion like reservoir and associated facilities, distillate mains, SCADA system and master plan for the water supply of Qatar and any other projects related to the efficient operation of the water networks.
6. Reviews and checks the water distribution pumping hours to different water towers under his responsibility and maintains adequate stock in the reservoirs in coordination with the Water Control Engineer.
7. Inspects and authenticates the handing- over certificate of new reservoir stations which shall be assigned by the Head of Section.
8. Instructs the Pump Operator from time to time on the efficient operation of the reservoir station according to Code of Practice.
9. Study and implements water optimization program to reduce water consumption.
10. Checks maps for main line and road opening application.
11. Supervises the isolation of the system in the reservoir station.
12. Performs other related duties as needed upon request by the immediate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervise the Pump Operators and Pump Helpers.
- Code of Practice.
- All employees and work related to reservoirs .

Requirements

Education & Training:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical or Sanitary Engineering.

Job Experience:
* Minimum 10 years in the operations of reservoir, pumping, chlorination stations Requires very little instruction and guidance.
* Applicable Guidelines / Manuals Required : Code of Practice and Operations manual as and when required only.
* Work Contact(s) and Purpose of Contacts (e.g. telephone contact to gather information / data; coordinate / arrange, etc.)
1. Desalination Stations Engineers to request information & to take action.
2. Water Projects Engineers to request information & to take action
3. Maintenance Engineers - to request information, provide technical assistance & to take action.
4. Water Planning Engineers - to request information, provide technical assistance & to take action.
5. Water Distribution Engineers - to request information, provide technical assistance & to take action.
6. General Services Engineers - to take action.
Physical Requirements: Physical Demand of the Work, Physically Fit to visit/inspect sites.
7. Work Environment o Hazardous in handling gas chlorine cylinders in the dis-infection of distillate water.
o Stations are located in different sites of Qatar and water towers need to be climbed which are on elevated portion.

Other Significant Requirements: (e.g. Knowledge Skills & Abilities, e.g. able to read, write & speak English as a second language)
- Literate in Water Pipe Hydraulics Software & JD Edwards.
- Management.
- Mobilization of resources in resolving emergency conditions.
- Requires Qatari driving license
- Not to be afraid of heights to climb water
- Have a good scientific knowledge.
- Have leading skills
- Be able and know how to handle conflicts.
- Be able to speak, read, and write English on a moderate level for manual reading and communication purposes.
- Can handle stress situations
- This position requires extensive traveling between venues/depots during normal and or outside office hours.
- This position requires mobile communication outside normal office hours for emergency purposes
