School Inspector

Job description / Role

To deliver against the strategic priorities of better outcomes, inspection and regulation, communication and ways of working by:

- Carrying out inspection visits in accordance with the inspection framework to drive improvement and check compliance with requirements for registration;
- Carrying out registration and other regulatory visits in accordance with the inspection requirements to ensure compliance with requirements for registration;
- Investigating and reporting on complaints and/or taking follow up action where there is evidence of non-compliance with regulations, conditions of registration or the statutory framework;
- Produce high quality reports that are clear and authoritative, that have transparent judgments based on secure evidence and are presented in the required format.

Requirements

- Previous school inspection experience in any curriculum.
- Previously have served as a head teacher in any phase/type of maintained school or as a senior manager in a secondary school, and have a minimum of three years experience as a senior leader.
- Experience in leading work in successful schools (not necessarily the most academic, but could include special schools, failing schools which have been turned around, or others which serve the most challenging and challenged communities).

Key skills required
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to make sound judgements.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and to deal with unfamiliar situations.
- Competence in using ICT, including the ability to use Microsoft Word, access websites, complete electronic return forms and use emails.
