Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

- To teach Science to students from all abilities across Years 7 13
- To ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives.
- To ensure all lessons deliver objectives of the English National Curriculum (Edexcel Board)
- To ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
- To take into account the differing ability lessons of students and differentiate work accordingly.
- To encourage all students to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
- To ensure that all students are known by name and that the classroom atmosphere is positive at all times.
- To encourage and foster intellectual curiosity.
- To deal with inappropriate behaviour quickly and effectively according to the school behavior policy.
- To check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.
- To set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the published timetable, and ensure that it is regularly marked with constructive feedback.
- To keep careful records of student progress in line with departmental and school policy.
- To ensure that there is a high standard of display work in the laboratory, which is changed frequently.
- To keep work areas tidy and organised to promote safety in the laboratory.
- To attend scheduled meetings in the Science Department and school.
- To work with colleagues in the Science Department to formulate plans which have coherence and relevance to the needs of the individual students and to the aims and objectives of VES.

Typical work activities
Day-to-day activities may include:
- preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes of different ages and abilities;
- marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development;
- researching new topic areas, maintaining up-to-date subject knowledge, and devising and writing new curriculum materials;
- selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment, including podcasts and interactive whiteboards;
- preparing pupils for qualifications and external examinations;
- managing pupil behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour;
- undertaking pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties;
- communicating with parents and carers over pupils' progress and participating in departmental meetings, parents' evenings and whole school training events;
- supervising and supporting the work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers
- participating in and organising extracurricular activities, such as outings, social activities and sporting events;
- undergoing regular observations and participating in regular in-service training , as part of continuing professional development (CPD).

Requirements

- A recognised teaching qualification BEd. in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or a Degree in Science with PGCE + 2 years experience
- First degree in English (essential for Visa purposes)
- Familiarity of the English National Curriculum
- Ability to teach up to A Level English

(Applicants must have their degrees attested by the UAE Embassy in the respective country they obtained the degree from / or have their degrees attested in the UAE by the representative embassy from which they obtained their degree)
