Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

We are currently looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer with a minimum of 15+ years experience in the design of precast segmental highway and railway bridges. Experience on Design & Build projects will be preferred.

The successful candidate will be required to provide engineering support with minimal supervision to complete tasks allocated to him on each project. Support the Head of Disciplines in the management of workload and the team. Provide technical expertise to team and clients.

Core Responsibilities:

Coordinate with contractor, infrastructure engineers, architects, services engineers, and other structural engineers.
Prepare sound Concept and Scheme designs.
Carry out structural design according to international design codes such as British.
Standards, American Standards and Eurocodes.
Resource and cost management of the design projects.
Coordinate, instruct and supervise structural engineers and technicians.
Carry out arithmetical checks and independent design review of other engineers design.
Responsible for the accuracy of own work and the work of his/her team.
Responsible for ensuring that engineering work is completed within programme.
Responsible for the checking of CAD work done under their supervision.
Give site backup on technical/design issues, where required.
Assist the Head of Department with other delegated duties as and when required.
Oversee on a day-to-day basis the coordination of the design of projects for which they have been appointed with other members of the design team.
Liaise with local authorities.
Build client relationships and help identify business opportunity.

Requirements

Core Requirements:

Honours Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent.
Have a strong understanding of bridge structures, prestressed concrete design and precast segmental construction and be able to analyse them appropriately according to project stage and complexity.
Recognised training of software packages i.e. RM-2006, ADAPT, LUSAS, SAM-LEAP5, ROBOT Millennium, STAAD pro software packages.
Familiar with international design code such as Eurocodes, British Standard and AASHTO LRFD.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Minimum 10 years post graduate project engineering experience including analysis and design, project management and some site supervision.
Minimum of 5 years design consultancy experience.
Must be able to independently initiate technically acceptable concept and scheme designs and meet the requirements of other disciplines.
Demonstrable ability to work within budget, to control costs and manage change control to ensure that additional work is paid for.
Commercially aware and have a flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility accepted.
Good business writing and presentation skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Able to use own initiative, confident decision maker and able to motivate self and others.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Able to plan workload efficiently and meet deadline.
