Senior CAD Technologist

The Senior CAD Technologist will lead and manage a CAD production team in the preparation of architectural, interior design, structural engineering and building services engineering design drawings, utilizing both 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and BIM (Revit) applications across all of the design service stages. The role will require a high degree of proficiency in building technology as well as a detailed understanding and ‘expert’ proficiency in the application software.

The Senior CAD Technologist must have a detailed appreciation of the effort required to complete the full range of tasks assigned to the production team and must be able to manage the production effort within pre-agreed resource allocations and take corrective action to ensure that man-hour budgets are not exceeded. The Senior CAD Technologist will be the custodian of the office design quality management plan and will be required to assure design technical quality for all work carried out by the production team.

STRATEGIC DIRECTION

The Senior CAD Technologist must establish a personal development plan to keep abreast of changing developments, both in the fields of BIM/CAD and building technology.

KEY OBJECTIVES

•Lead and manage the CAD production team.
•Co-ordinate in house and sub-consultancy disciplines design contribution to the production of design information.
•Manage production of design documentation in accordance pre-agreed man-hour budgets.
•Improve efficiency in production and quality of design documentation.
•Establish and maintain KPI’s for the CAD production team.
•Maintain and update the office CAD manual.
•Undertake technical project audits both during design and construction.
•Produce and deliver in house BIM/CAD training seminars.
•Assess and maintain proficiency of the CAD production team members.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Take overall responsibility for the performance of the CAD production team.
•Delegation and supervision to the CAD production team.
•Preparation of relevant technical design solutions for production development.
•Co-ordination and management of in-house and appointed sub-consultants.
•Time management of all members of the CAD production team in accordance with pre-agreed man-hour allocations.
•Research and awareness of job related international trends.
•Report progress at weekly project meetings.
•Motivation of the CAD production team in pursuit of excellence.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

•Director/Head of Architecture – project progress, financial reporting, resource requirements / allocation.
•Heads of architectural and interiors section – day to day liaison and review of issues related to design and execution of work.
•Head of architectural and interior design sections – support on technical and design issues.
•Project manager – build-ability, technical options, material performance standards, shop drawing technical audits and reviews.

RESOURCES CONTROLLED/AUTHORITY HELD

•Responsible for work executed by CAD production team.
•Responsible for co-ordination on in-house disciplines and work executed by appointed sub-consultants.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The following attributes are expected:
•A keen awareness of current trends in BIM/CAD and building technology and the ability to disseminate knowledge to the team.
•Possess a relevant recognized architectural or engineering qualification (Minimum BA/BSc.).
•Ideally previously employed by a renowned multi-disciplinary international consultancy practice.
•Must have a minimum of 10 years professional experience post qualification, 5 of which in a similar role.
•Be energetic, pro-active and be a naturally creative individual.
•Preferably a member of relevant professional institution/ association.
•Well organized creative individual with ability to “think outside the box”.
•Have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
