The Role


The Role

General Summary:

Identify and Prepare Civil engineering scope of work, design basis definitions and basic engineering deliverable requirements of assigned projects for further development by engineering consultants. Participates in developing designs appropriation within Oryx such as feasibility studies, concepts, basic and detail designs on assigned projects.
Provide technical support in the review & approval of bidders, detail designs, material purchase requisitions, construction method statements, pre-commissioning, commissioning procedures and during start-up and operation in resolving issues. Provide discipline civil/structural/building & infrastructure engineering design support, as an internal technical service to the Engineering Department, in the definition, development and execution of all Projects assigned to the Department for implementation, from inception through handover to Asset Owner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Overall responsibility of providing technical input related to civil discipline engineering as per the management of change procedure. Develop and analyze technical and financial aspects of available civil arrangements for the responsibilities. Perform and review civil related calculation and be responsible for their implications on function (both men and material) of the plant.
• Author & compile engineering scopes of work, design basis definitions and basic engineering deliverable requirements of assigned projects for further development by Engineering Consultants.
• Author & compile in-house designs including feasibility studies, concepts, basic and detail designs on assigned projects.
• Review and approve all civil engineering deliverables developed by Consultants up to AFD/AFC stage.
• Provide support in resolving technical issues and in the review & approval of bidders, detailed designs, material purchase requisitions, construction method statements, pre-commissioning & commissioning procedures, prepared by EPIC Contractors during the Project Execution Phase of all Projects.
• Witness and accept completed installations to ensure conformance to design and specifications.
• Assuming full responsibility and accountability for technical integrity and fitness for purpose (civil discipline) of all assigned projects.
• Participate in design review meetings, value engineering, risk assessments and project risk studies (HAZOP/HAZARD) as a functional team member.
• Contribute to the development and/or updating of ORYX Standards, Specifications & Procedures.
• Interface with third parties (engineering consultants, suppliers/vendors, inspection agencies) including Q-Companies, local authorities and departments within ORYX on relevant discipline engineering matters to ensure designs are developed as ‘fit-for-purpose’.
• Participate in the Company’s Qatarization initiative by providing all required support and cooperation to ensure the development of civil engineering design capabilities in Qatari employees as assigned.
• Preparing and analyzing the civil calculation done in-house or by consultant for their conformance /integration to existing plant and the applicable civil standards.
• Provide discipline engineering support (as an internal technical service) to the Project Division, during the Execution Phase (detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning & handover for service) for all assigned projects.
• Witness and accept Factory & Site Tests (FAT/SAT) and inspect completed installations to ensure conformance to design and specification as required by the project(s).
• Provide input to Document control (DCC) team in development of their document tracking/retrieval procedures and other departmental workflows as required by line management
• Perform other job related support service functions as identified and assigned by Line Management.

Dimensions:

•Assist the Head of Engineering Support and Head of Projects in the identification & preparation of project estimates, schedules and annual opex/capex budgets as directed.
• No direct staff reports.

Operating Environment:

• Work is performed in a well structured working environment where clear reporting relationships are established for all positions.

Communications and Working Relationships:

• Direct daily interaction with Head of Engineering for feedback, priorities and concerns.
• Direct daily interaction with engineering and project team members at functional level.
• Infrequent interaction with Operations, Maintenance, SHERQ and other Department Heads.
• Regular interaction with external parties and service providers i.e. consultants, vendors and contractors.

Requirements


Requirements

Job Specifications/Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Engineering Degree (Civil/Structural/Building) or recognized equivalent.

• Experience: 8 years plus experience in the design of civil/structural/building/infrastructure installations associated with industrial, chemical or oil & gas processing plants. Construction experience is beneficial.

• Other, job related requirements:
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint). Familiar with industry codes
