Senior Crane Supervisor - Select Auto - Mozambique

Offering premium mobility and material handling solutions for international organizations and governments, Select Auto caters to the requirements of a diverse client base for the leasing, sale and maintenance of light vehicles, heavy equipment and power generation equipment in expeditionary environments

We are currently looking for experienced Senior Crane Supervisor / Appointed Person. The main purpose of the role will be:

* The Appointed Person is to provide a safe system of working by properly planning the lifting operation by the preparation of a comprehensive Risk Assessment and Method Statement.
* The Crane Supervisor directs and supervises on site the lifting operation; he/she is also a fully certified competent crane operator.

Main Responsibilities:
A. This role must take account of all aspects of crane lifting duties and site safety, such as:

* The site - access and egress, gradients, ground type, excavations, overhead electric or telephone cables and other proximity hazards
* Potential weather conditions, in particular wind and thunderstorms

B. Selecting a crane of suitable capacity to perform the operation with an adequate margin of safety including:

* The size and type of crane, its duties and outrigger settings and loadings, the radius at which it will work and boom lengt

C. Selecting the appropriate load handling equipment, including chains, slings, lifting beams, spreaders, lifting eyes etc. taking account of:

* The load - weight and dimensions, lift points, sharp edges and location before and after the lifting operation
* The weight of the equipment to be used and the impact on the overall weight to be lifted

D. Determining the method of attaching the load/s to the crane (the slinging technique):

* Ensuring that the crane and lifting equipment has current test certification and has no obvious defects
* Ensuring that the Lifting Team is trained and competent and has been properly briefed

E. Must prepare the Risk Assessment and Method Statement himself, but may delegate some or all of the other duties to a competent person (such as a Site Supervisor) or other competent person who could take responsibility for the lifting operation on site.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge:

* Construction Industry Training Board (CITB - UK) - Crane Supervisor / Appointed Person
* Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) - Crane Supervisor / Appointed Person
* National Commission For the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO- US)
* Crane Instructor/Trainer qualifications would be beneficial
* Operating in austere environments would be beneficial

Minimum Experience:

* Minimum 10 years total mobile/rough terrain crane operator experience with an additional 5 years crane supervisory management
* Experience in the instruction and training of crane operators would be beneficial

Job-Specific Skills:

* Fully conversant with BS7121 - British Standard Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Cranes (or direct equivalent)
* Detailed understanding of crane lifting operations
* Able to manage and plan on site lifting duties
* Ability to perform daily crane maintenance
* Fully conversant with crane operator/rigger hand signals
* Fully conversant with electronic automatic load indication systems
* Be able to read & understand load charts
* Fully conversant with crane and rigger load certification requirements
* Excellent communication (English language - verbal / written) and interpersonal skills
