Senior Data Scientist

Job description / Role

Work on an array of enterprise and consumer information products, with a wide range of rich data sets, cutting edge technology, and the ability to turn insights turned into products on a regular basis. The perfect candidate will have a background in a quantitative or technical field, will have experience working with large data sets, and will have proven experience in data-driven decision making.

Apply expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and gleam content-specific as well as user-specific insights in a variety of large data sets. Partner with Product, Engineering and Customer teams to solve problems and identify trends and opportunities.

The Data Scientist responsibilities span the following areas:

Data Infrastructure
- Working in hadoop and spark primarily, sometimes mysql and others
- Authoring pipelines via SQL and python based ETL framework
- Building key data sets to empower operational and exploratory analysis
- Automating analyses

Product Operations
- Setting goals
- Designing and evaluating experiments monitoring key product metrics, understanding root causes of changes in metrics
- Building and analyzing dashboards and reports

Exploratory Analysis
- Proposing what to build in the next roadmap
- Understanding ecosystems, user behaviors, and long-term trends
- Evaluating and defining metrics

Product Leadership
- Influencing product teams through presentation of work
- Communicating of state of business, experiment results, etc to product teams and customers
- Spreading best practices to analytics and product teams

Requirements

- 2+ years experience doing quantitative analysis
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or other technical field.
- Fluency in SQL or other programming languages. Some development experience in at least one scripting language (PHP, Python, Perl, etc.)
- Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis
- Proven ability to work with and engage end users throughout the project lifecycle and communicate the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner
- Plus: experience with a statistical package such as R, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, Stata, etc.
- Plus: experience with an Internet-based company.
- Plus: experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Hive/Hadoop)
- Plus: deep Arabic language and cultural understanding

Further Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Math, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, Finance, Computer Information Systems or any related field.
- Experience working in a lean, successful start-up or on a new product team where continuous innovation is desired and ambiguity is the norm.
- 5+ years of industry experience in data analysis, statistical analysis and predictive modeling
- Experience working with software engineering and data engineering teams to develop scalable analytic platforms
- Proven experience performing behavioral segmentation
- Practical experience with machine leaning and artificial intelligence
- Ability to create extensible and scalable data schema that lay the foundation for downstream analysis
