The RoleThe RoleGeneral Summary: Provide electrical engineering design support, as an internal technical service to the Engineering Department, in the definition, development and execution of all Projects assigned to the Department for implementation, from inception through handover to Asset Owner. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Author and compile electrical engineering scope of work, design basis definitions and basic engineering deliverable requirements of assigned projects for further development by engineering consultants. • Author & compile in-house designs including feasibility studies, concepts, basic and detail designs on assigned projects. • Review and approve all electrical engineering deliverables developed by consultants up to IFDD stage. • Provide technical support in the review & approval of bidders, detail designs, material purchase requisitions, construction method statements, pre-commissioning & commissioning procedures and during start-up and operation in resolving technical issues. • Witness and accept Factory & Site Tests (FAT/SAT) and inspect completed equipment installations to ensure conformance to design and specification as required by the project(s). • Assuming full responsibility and accountability for technical integrity and fitness for purpose (electrical discipline) of all assigned projects. • Participate in design review meetings, value engineering, risk assessments and project risk studies (HAZOP/HAZAN) as a functional team member. • Contribute to the development and/or updating of ORYX Standards, Specifications and procedures. • Interface with third parties (engineering consultants, suppliers/vendors, inspection agencies) including Q-companies, Local authorities and departments within ORYX on electrical engineering matters to ensure the designs are developed as “fit-for-purpose”. • Participate in the company’s qatarization initiative by providing all required support and cooperation to ensure the development of electrical engineering design capabilities in Qatari employees as assigned. • Perform other job related support service functions as identified and assigned by line management. • Provide discipline input to the development and/or updating of ORYX Standards, Specifications & Procedures • Provide input to EDMS as required • Responsible & accountable (by discipline) for the development of Feasibility Studies, Design Basis Memorandum’s and Front End Engineering Designs (FEED) for all assigned projects, prepared in-house or by external Consultants/Service Providers. • Prepare scopes of work, specifications, drawings and other related engineering material to a level suitable for the subsequent development & implementation (by others), of assigned projects. • Provide discipline engineering support (as an internal technical service) to the Project Division, during the Execution Phase (detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning & handover for service) for all assigned projects. • Interface with Third Parties (Engineering Consultants, Suppliers/Vendors, Inspection Agencies) including Q-Companies, local authorities and departments within the ORYX establishment, on all discipline engineering matters as may be required, to ensure designs are developed as ‘fit-for-purpose’. • Provide input to Project Risk studies as a functional team member. |
RequirementsRequirementsEngineering Degree (Electrical) or recognized equivalent. 10+ years experience in electrical design engineering with knowledge of power generation, switchgear and transformer principles for selection of HV and LV equipment. Specific knowledge of equipment selection, recognizing fault level constraints, voltage levels and regulation, load flow, transient stability, switchgear types, electrical protection principles to enable electrical protection schemes to be specified including microprocessor based control and protection systems (overcurrent, earth fault, differential, generator, distance and short circuit protection). Ability to analyze and review electrical protection calculations, discrimination curves and protection relay settings. Adequate knowledge of design of electrical generation and distribution systems, sizing of electrical equipment and knowledge of electrical layouts. Maintenance, construction and commissioning experience is an added advantage. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint). Familiar with industry codes and standards. Experienced in application & interpretation of electrical engineering software. Knowledge in network based electronic control and communication system for power distribution and control management system relating to gas processing/petrochemical facilities. Working knowledge of EPIC contracts and construction/commissioning/QA/QC techniques. |
