Senior Engineer - Structures

Job description / Role

The Senior Structural Engineer (SE) leads the technical delivery of Structural projects and assists with management of the Structures team within the Mouchel Middle East Design Centre.

The role is based in Abu Dhabi and will involve travel to ensure successful delivery of the role. The potential travel locations include, but are not limited to, UAE, KSA, UK and India.

The SE will provide technical guidance and management to ensure that project outcomes meet the required technical standards and project deliverables in accordance with agreed budgetary, programme and delivery requirements.

The SE is responsible as a technical lead for consistency, quality and technical excellence across Structural projects whilst ensuring innovation and efficiency by developing and sharing best practice; ensuring that excellent technical standards are employed in the design, documentation and supervision of project work.

The SE will also be required to act as the Design Manager for multi-disciplinary projects, liaising with Project Managers and other discipline leads to ensure successful project delivery and completion within agreed timescales and budgets.

Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure projects undertaken in line with Mouchel policy on all SHEQ matters.
- Lead the successful Technical and Financial delivery of Structural design elements of projects.
- Lead delivery of high quality projects, demonstrating continuous improvement, to the measurable satisfaction of clients.
- Contribute to innovation and efficiency across the Structures team.
- Demonstrate leadership, management, motivation and development of staff to improve their performance and achieve their potential.
- Support the business planning, financial control and commercial/risk management as required.
- Assist with accurate resource planning and allocation to ensure adequate resources are available for the completion of Structural projects.
- Support ongoing forecasting of planned and actual costs and utilisation.
- Provide professional and technical guidance and coaching to all staff, and encourage progression towards professional qualifications e.g. CEng, IEng etc.

Requirements

- A degree in a relevant discipline.
- To be a chartered / incorporated member (or equivalent) of a relevant professional institution is preferred.
- Or demonstrable experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and application of relevant international design standards and procedures.
- Proven track record in assisting in the delivery of complex engineering and infrastructure projects from a design perspective in accordance with budgetary and programme constraints.
- Demonstrable experience of supporting and mentoring of staff.
- Middle East experience is desirable.
