Senior Highways Engineer

- To manage a project team within the major projects sub division
-To aid the project manager in managing the resources to deliver the agreed outcomes for the project
- To aid the project manager in ensuring that the team have adequate training and resources
- To aid the project manager in managing external resources used by the Highways Team
- To agree the briefs, programmes and budgets with the project manager
- To prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for highways schemes
- To allocate tasks to other members of the team and monitor progress
- To monitor the designs produced to ensure they meet the design briefs
- To ensure designs are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence
- To seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them
- To ensure that the quality system is actively applied to all highways schemes

Requirements

- Membership of an appropriate professional institution (ICE or IHT)
- Basic Project Management Skills
- Competent in Highway Engineering
- Broad skills, knowledge and understanding of other design areas
- Detailed knowledge of CAT process (CAF and TOCCA)
- Understanding of H&S Requirements related to Highway Engineering
- Broad knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation
- Understanding of Environmental Requirements of Highway schemes
- Basic knowledge of Quality Management- In-depth understanding of QMS
- Good communication skills
- Relevant qualifications (MEng / BEng / BSc)
- Detailed knowledge of design codes (DMRB / MCDHW etc) relevant to Highway Engineering
- Knowledge of the HA procedures necessary to deliver a Highways project
- Knowledge of the use of computer design tools

Experience:
- Appropriate recent experience in Highway Engineering
- Recent experience of leading design teams and coordinating interf
aces with other disciplines
- Recent experience of working in a multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience in the design and construction of highways schemes
