The Role


The Role


To act in a staff advisory capacity to the Inspection Engineers and to assure a high level of Inspection Engineering is developed within the group with emphasis to a specific area of expertise such as materials, corrosion, computerization, process equipment inspection or project quality control and quality assurance.

1. Ensures that a high level of engineering expertise is applied in SAMREF. Guide and direct the Area and Unit Engineers to arrive at cost effective repair/replacement recommendations aimed at maximizing the safety, operability and reliability of the refinery plant equipment and facilities. Applies sound engineering judgment and recommend alternative solution, under the situations where engineering specifications may conflicts with company economics.

2.Accepts responsibility to help develop inspection engineering skills and capabilities within the Corrosion & Inspection Group through classroom sessions, OJT drives and presentations. Guide Inspection Engineers and Inspectors towards professional development. Acts as a technical resource person and a consultant in his area of expertise, within and outside the group.

3.Accepts advanced off the job training in specialized fields preferably in Universities or attached to research institutes. Specialized subjects such as, Failure Analysis & Metallurgy, Risk Based Inspections, Fracture Mechanics, Fitness for Service Assessment of Pressure Equipment and Refinery Equipment Inspection (Suggested: UOP Course) are recommended on availability. Actively participates in various technical discussion meetings, workshops and seminars both in local and international forums. May attend advanced NDT Training and achieves Level III certification or diplomas preferably in Radiographic Interpretation (RTI). Attends suitable management training programs (Suggested : Team Building) and also advances in PC applications (Suggested : MS Power Point).

4.Develops new inspection procedures, programs, database systems, and inspection techniques within the area of expertise. Reviews current procedures, practices and effect revisions as needed.

5.May assume responsibility as a team leader or a member of special task forces formed to execute large scale or venture projects, on secondment basis.

6.Advises Technical Inspection Supervisor on procurement of new equipment and software, and in evaluation of bids. Assists Technical Inspection Supervisor in technical/personnel administration matters within the group and in management obligations.

7. Accepts responsibility to keep the group updated with all relevant standards, codes and engineering literature. Guide Junior Engineers to use them appropriately. Investigate into cost effective selection of industry codes and standards while assuring the company objectives.

8.May represents Technical Inspection Supervisor in technical/administration forums within and outside SAMREF and deliver technical presentations when required. Keeps contacts with outside consulting bodies such as Saudi Aramco, Mobil, and NACE, etc. May fills in for the Technical Inspection Supervisor when needed.

9.Adheres to ISO 9002 quality system and guide the group to help maintain a high level of quality in all group activities. Identify the weaknesses and loopholes in the current quality management procedures and advise the management accordingly.

Educational Requirements or Equivalent: B.S. Engineering degree with Mechanical/ Chemical or Material Corrosion as the major.

Specialized Knowledge: Expertise in general inspection engineering with special emphasis to a specific area such as material and corrosion technology, computerized applications, process plant inspection and trouble shooting, quality control and quality assurance engineering, non-destructive testing, training and applications, etc. Professional memberships/qualifications, post-graduate academic credits, research experience and NDT certifications are highly desired. The minimum English Proficiency Level shall be ELT-VI.

Previous Experience Required: Not less than ten (10) years of related industry experience in an operating refinery or a Petrochemical Plant.

Working Knowledge to be Acquired on the job: Effectively utilizes latest technological developments in the industry. Identifies potential problem areas where further research and technical vigilance is required. Realizes the areas requiring further improvements or revisions required in common industry codes and quality systems. Continue gathering experience and improves on professional competencies and establish expertism in his field of endeavor. Also develop necessary management and supervisory skills for future assignments.
