The Role


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs advanced, complex engineering assignments using convention or innovative engineering techniques and analyses as related to project instrumentation and controls. At this level, the Engineer is fully proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Responsible to implement the project quality plan and quality procedures and productivity related to all instrumentation works in accordance with program of work on construction site. Assists in defining the process for execution of engineering activities related to all types of instrumentation and controls to identify the need for specialty assistance.

Key Tasks and Duties:
Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately as related to instrumentation.

Reviews/comments on instrument engineering control systems like instrument location layout drawings, cable block diagram and cable schedule, control room layout drawings, control schematic diagram-control and logic diagram for control system equipment.

Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.

Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.

Provides technical guidance to MEP CAD Technicians working on the same project.

Assists in the preparation of Contract Documents including Specifications. This includes e.g. HVAC, Security system and Pumping stations.

Coordinates with the consultant in preparation of method of statements related to instrumentation works.

Reviews contract drawings, specifications and other procurement materials that have been prepared by others; and provide comments on the results of the reviews.

Serves as primary interface with the design consultants and construction contractor in performing design reviews or addressing construction-related issues related to the instrumentation.

Understands all related codes and their application to the project; and overseas/manages the interface with local agencies to coordinate design standards usage and monthly approvals’ process.

Act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on instrumentation engineering related matters.

Maintains awareness of the project instrumentation specifications, drawings and design criteria.

Provides regular reports on progress to the Infrastructure Design Manager; and identifies needs for additional or specialty staffing.

Requirements


Requirements


4-year degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, or equivalent technical degree, with 8 - 12 years of broad experience in instrumentation engineering and design related to large industrial or infrastructural projects with a preference for GCC experience. Requires up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, International Codes and Standards in MEP/ BMS/ Automation and controls industry.

Proven ability to perform in a key technical role, good written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required. In addition, must be knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project.
