Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Job Summary:
- Working closely with the Procurement team to identify risks and implement risk mitigation solutions
- Management of legal aspects of competitive tendering processes
- Negotiation of, and drafting, project documentation / amendments
- Provision of commercially-useable, legally sound ad hoc legal advice to the Department

Roles and Responsibilities:
* Risk identification / mitigation: Proactively engage with the business throughout the project life-cycle to:
- identify key risks on each project and across projects
- make recommendations to mitigate identified risks
provide robust drafting and contract structuring solutions to implement risk mitigation strategies
* Negotiation of contracts terms with individual bidders and with multiple bidders in a competitive tendering environment
* Competitive tender process: legal evaluation of bids received, response to bidders legal requests for clarifications, drafting legal addenda to RFPs
* Maintain standard RFPs and Agreements templates and improve periodically.
* Enhance the terms and conditions of templates based on users feedback after implementation and completion of agreement.
* Contract documentation:
- Drafting all legal project documentation to (a) reflect commercially agreed principles and (b) address identified risks
* Negotiating / drafting contract amendments
- Review of technical schedules to ensure consistency with legal terms and commercially agreed positions
* Advice: ad hoc advice which (a) is legally sound and (b) facilitates commercial solutions, to ensure seamless delivery of projects / resolution of issues on site

Requirements

Business capabilities:
- 12 years PQE (Post qualification experience) in construction law
- Ability to manage budget and control costs
- Reporting to senior management

Interpersonal skills:
- Good analytical skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Great understanding of policies, procedures & work methods
- Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Key Performance Indicators:
- Meet the timelines / deadlines provided by the head of the department.
- Provide qualitative agreements, which are loophole free.
- Minimize the risk exposure of contracts to minimizes the cost impact.

Qualifications:
- Essential: Bachelors Degree in Law
- Highly regarded: post graduate qualifications relevant to the role
