Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description / Role

Responsible for the selection of rotary equipment for industrial, infrastructure and sanitary installations, producing equipment specifications and creating budgets for new projects, inclusive of equipment like pumps, fans, blowers, water and wastewater associated equipment.

Preparation of mechanical system designs for process equipment for water and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, general infrastructure and related facilities in coordination with other disciplines.

Preparation of concept, preliminary and final designs, design reports, specifications, calculations, drawings, tender documents, procurement packages and cost estimates for FEED/EPC, design build and design, bid-build type contracts.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop mechanical designs, design calculations, select equipment, prepare mechanical (rotary) engineering scope and design specifications, data sheets and project engineering cost estimation.
- Ensure the design and materials specified are fit-for-purpose, comply with applicable environment, design engineering codes and standards, project specifications, statutory and regulatory requirements
- Responsible for all mechanical (rotary) engineering and design activities on projects through collaboration with other engineering disciplines to facilitate execution of projects.
- Establish the scope of work and man-hours estimates for engineering studies and projects so as to ensure effective usage of project resources, cost effectiveness and timely delivery of projects
- Provide technical guidance to junior level mechanical engineers and draftsmen, as directed by the Lead Engineer.
- Participate in technical evaluation of proposal from bidders during Project Tendering Process through technical clarifications, site visit and close liaison with the respective bidders as well as discipline engineers to ensure project requirements are met
- Participate in the quality control of engineering design on engineering deliverables through activities such as reviews by third parties to ensure compliance with applicable design engineering codes and standards, project statutory requirements and safety requirements
- Compliance to statutory and legislative requirements

Requirements

PREFERRED:
- Bachelor Degree or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years experience in mechanical design for water, sewage and irrigation pump stations, waste water, industrial and potable, water treatment plants in oil and gas related industries.
- Experience supervising and leading a team an advantage.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Proven ability to perform in a key technical role, good written and oral communications skills, and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are also required. In addition, must be knowledgeable of current technology and how it can be effectively utilized on the project.
