Our client based in Nairobi Kenya, is a 40 Year old Steel Fabrication company with main product areas focused on Design Fabrication and all types of structural steel works for commercial, industrial and public buildings. They are an ISO standard company operating throughout Eastern and Central Africa.

Senior Operations Manager - Engineering

Reporting to the COO, the ideal candidate will be groomed to eventually become the COO

Responsibilities:
- Manage and direct staff members and the construction, operations, or maintenance activities of the Steel Fabrication depots.
- Supervise, coordinate, & schedule the activities of construction & fabrication workers, plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
- Inspect work progress, equipment and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
- Assign work to employees, based on material or worker requirements of specific jobs and estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs.
- Confer with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or clients to resolve problems or to construction coordinate activities.
- Analyze worker or production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans.
- Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures to workers.
- Enforce safety and sanitation regulations and supervise the verification of conformance of work-pieces to specifications.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
- Supervise the setup of fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.

Requirements

- A Degree in Structural Engineering.
- 10-15 years experience in managing a steel fabrication workshop.
- Must have detailed knowledge and understanding of steel fabrication drawings.
- Able to lead a large team and coordinate resources in a busy workshop.
- Responsible to supervise and drive project schedules, implement project plans as per approved budget, deadline and project specifications.
- Must have good knowledge in the erection and fabrication of steelwork.
- Ability to monitor fabrication and erection departments on a daily basis.
- Knowledge in Autocad.
- Excellent use of English language for written and verbal communications.
- Be able to work with minimal supervision.
