Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our client, a leading international FMCG company is seeking an experienced Senior Packaging Scientist to join their close knit department based in Dubai.
Your objective will be to become an expert in packaging technology for one of their category. You will be the direct or indirect resource, including support or lead of packaging activities. Responsibilities also include to ensure packaging development meets consumer, customer and business relevance for the category.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Technology Research and Management:
Horizon scan on future packaging technology opportunities with internal and external research partners and institutions
Filter and translate diverse insights from customers, consumers and competitors into key technical deliverables while managing their implementation within the region
Built internal and external networks such as regional and global packaging suppliers to maximise their potential and to identify and influence external regulations, standards, processes and open innovation

Training & Capability Building:
Deliver packaging training curriculum to drive awareness of packaging cross-functionally and in conjunction with production technical training
Build solid capability of prototype development to improve speed of innovations/renovations of all packaging projects
Provide technical coaching and consulting to support packaging innovation team and other key stakeholders to develop and deliver most feasible technical solutions

Continuous Improvements:
Monitor and review performance of critical processes and system for compliance and continuous improvements
To build and maintain technical expertise within all packaging technologies relevant to our brands such that these new technologies can be applied to the company innovation and COGS control programs
Implement and drive factory efficiency and COGS via agreed continuous improvement packaging projects via define tools and metrics
Key member of activity/change management process, create and develop business recommendation and project scoping with key stakeholders

Packaging Specifications & Quality Stem and Packaging sustainability & Leveraging connections:
Accountable for robust packaging specifications and continuous improvement to comply with regulatory and industry standard
Define and set quality standards of packaging while adhering to the Material Quality Management process
Conduct risk assessments and audits of new existing suppliers alongside Supplier Quality
Development of global packaging strategy by col-leading with the global and regional strategic material buyers
Development of technical audit manuals to assist identification, scoping and development of alternative suppliers/materials along with procurement.
Key member of execution team for new factory lines to delivery agreed projects with maximum effectiveness following a robust qualification
To network and build effective relationship with packaging colleagues across the region
Key member of the Global Sustainability forum responsible for communication and rolling out programs and initiatives within the region.
Ability to effectively lobby key internal and external stakeholders to influence the development and deployment of external regulations, standards and process.

Requirements

Candidate Requirements:
Applicants must have a 10-15 years of experience in packaging development within FMCG business and have a functional and technical skills.
Applicants must hold a minimum BSC or Master degree in Packaging or related Sciences
Must have strong and in depth technical knowledge of packaging development and material sciences for a diverse range of materials including; Films, Rigid Plastic, paperboard and Corrugated Cardboard
Working knowledge of food safety and hygiene programs, packaging conversion and legislation and raw materials
Knowledge of both 2D and 3D soft wares such as AUTOCAD, Inventor, Illustrator and Photoshop will be an asset.
Lean and Six Sigma certified an asset.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal and strong influencing skills
Ability to lead, coach and motivate teams and a dynamic and changing environment
Ability to travel 10% time
