Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

JOB OBJECTIVE:

-To be responsible to the Executive Producer for preparing, producing and delivering a single programme (s).

-To be creatively, editorially and financially responsible for the production and delivery of the programmes.

-To generate and develop ideas for consideration during Commissioning to meet the commissioning needs identified by the Programming Division.

-To work with the Executive Producer to build an effective team with the skills to deliver high quality content for all JCC Channels, developing new talent where necessary.

-To understand the target audiences of JCC and the commissioning requirements of the individual channels.

-To mentor and develop more junior members of the production team.

DESCRIPTION:

-Responsible for developing and managing the production of programmes, to take responsibility for the editorial content and the creative style of programmes.

-To take overall responsibility for delivering the programme to budget and on time, meeting the requirements specified by the Commissioning Agreement and the Executive Producer.

-Interprets ideas in a way that shows an understanding of the artistic potential of television to deliver the editorial purpose of the programme.

-Works with Production Management to ensure that a production budget and logistic plan are in place for the production of the programme, identifying the requirements for staff, freelancers and resources.

-Works with Production Management to ensure that presenters and contributors are identified and allocated for the programme.

-Works with the Production Coordinator to set an appropriate budget which ensures the programme/s are completed within the agreed funding.

-Briefs all staff in the programme team on all elements of the programme including editorial, creative, presentation and style.

-Supervises the preparation of the programme including all editorial aspects, filming, editing, and studio recording.

-Ensures the Production Coordinator receives all the information necessary to support the budgeting and logistics for the programme.

-Works with the Production Co-ordinator and/or Supervisor to negotiate with external organisations to obtain filming permits, identify logistical arrangements and to find appropriate resources.

-Works with the Production team to identify kid’s casting requirements for the programme.

-Coordinates with the Production Manager on the use of allocated staff and resources.

-Takes full editorial responsibility including overseeing the Director and/or Producer in the studio, outside broadcasts or location filming with Presenters and Contributors.

-Contributes to the development of innovative ideas for the Commissioning Offers meeting.

-Works with Online and Multi-Media to make sure that they know about planned programmes that may be exploited to reach more of the JCC audience online.

-Makes sure that Marketing and Branding have all content and information necessary to support the promotion of JCC programmes delivered on time.

-Works closely with the Executive Producer and keeps them informed on all editorial and financial issues associated with the production of the programmes.

-Contributes to the training and development of the team.

-Ensures there are regular production team meetings.

-Works to use resources effectively to get the best value for money for JCC.

-Acts as a role model internally and an ambassador for JCC externally.

-Improves the level of personal competence to perform this role by identifying and following opportunities for learning and self-development.

-Takes part in the Performance Review and Appraisal Process.

Requirements

Education:

Media / Fine Art or any related role.

Experience:

Should have at least 3 years experience as a Producer in TV or a reputable organization related to Media.

Skills & Abilities:

-Strong editorial judgement and practical knowledge of television production.

-Demonstrable creative skills.

-Sound understanding of the aims and editorial policies of JCC.

-Ability to lead and manage a production team to achieve optimum performance.

-Ability to manage presenters and contributors, particularly children.

-Sound financial understanding.

-Ability to work effectively under pressure, particularly in a ‘live’ programme environment.

-Excellent communication and relationship building skills.

-Able to work in a way that respects others.

-Able to be diplomatic but firm and fair.
