Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

To provide assistance for the development, Implementation and maintenance of Safety Management Systems and to support the achievement of the safety goals and objectives of the Company.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To support the provision of independent technical expertise on all aspects of Safety Management.
- To support the development and implementation of Safety Management Systems and, through line management, achieve the safety goals and objectives of the Company.
- To support the provision of professional advice to the Plant Divisional HSE Superintendents.
- To assist in the formulation of the safety goals and objectives of the Company and to develop plans to achieve the agreed objectives.
- To assist with the development and maintenance of Company safety policies, standards and procedures, which incorporate UAE statutory requirements, Company guidelines and international best practice.
- To assist with the development and maintenance of Emergency Response procedures in order to reduce the risk to personnel, assets and Company reputation. To conduct emergency exercises to verify the effectiveness of these procedures.
- To participate in Safety Reviews and Hazard Identification studies (HAZOPs, Risk Assessments, etc)
- To provide appropriate safety training and assist with the development of a competency assurance process.
- To analyze and evaluate Company safety performance through accurate and timely reporting against plans/targets.
- To support the investigation and appraisal of safety related incidents and to develop remedial actions to reduce safety risk.
- To manage safety audits of the Company operations and facilities. To ensure that safety audits are completed on schedule and action plans are implemented.
- To support actions to ensure that Contractors manage safety in accordance with Company policy.
- To coordinate the Management review of the company Head Office HSE activities through participation in the Head Office HSE Committee.
- To represent Company in various safety forums (e.g. Safe Practices Technical Committee), other Group Companies and third party representatives.

BACKGROUND:
The Senior Safety Engineer reports directly to the Sr. HSE Advisor, along with Senior HSE Engineer. The major challenge for the Senior Safety Engineer is to strive imaginatively for the continuous improvement of safety performance.

The jobholder must exercise judgment on appropriate policies, standards and actions in an industry with a high technical complexity and inherent safety risk. Local culture and public opinion is becoming increasingly aware of safety issues and this requires the balancing of the long-term cost of safety policies with the benefits in terms of reduced safety risks.

Required to ensure compliance with standards, development of best practice and enhancement of Company reputation.

Requirements

- Degree in Engineering ideally with specialization in a related field e.g. Safety Engineering.
- Exposure to international standards of Environment and/or Safety e.g. ISO or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is considered desirable for this job.
- 10 years or more of similar experience with at least 5 years in a relevant exposure to operations in oil and gas industry
