About the Business

Description and Desired Qualifications
CH2M HILL Senior Safety Officer (Saudi National) - Jeddah, KSA CH2M HILL is providing project management services for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the neighboring town of Thuwal in Saudi Arabia. Situated on the scenic Red Sea an hour north of the second largest Saudi Arabian city and seaport, Jeddah; KAUST is a truly spectacular facility, and is slated to become a major center of research, training the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists in the Middle East. We have secured a four-year-plus contract with Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco)for a wide array of projects at KAUST. They include specialized laboratories, research centers, innovation and technology incubation centers, administration buildings, a convention center, mosques, residential and recreational facilities, research park infrastructure and security systems. The work also includes site development, communications equipment, utilities, roads, parking and landscaping. In addition to the 14-square-mile KAUST campus, the program will be developing the town of Thuwal itself, with the construction of schools, a clinic, mosques, roads, Coast Guard and National Guard facilities and a fishing harbor. General Summary

This position assists in the development, implementation, and administration of safety, health, environmental protection, and substance abuse prevention programs affecting employee and public safety, occupational health, fire protection and prevention, and equipment and property protection. The incumbent works under general supervision and work may be reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Works under general supervision and work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy, and performs basic technical work in a wide range of HSE disciplines to achieve compliance with CH2M Hill's HSE standards and regulatory requirements.
Assists in training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
Assists in the communication with the functional group leaders.
Maintains working knowledge of specific requirements imposed by governmental agencies.
Manages safety or occupational health program elements.
Develops and recommends safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.
Has basic knowledge of specialty areas
Applies safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
Develops safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
Performs onsite audits to ensure regulatory compliance, and conducts investigations.
Develops or implements programs to reduce the frequency, severity and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
Analyzes or evaluates new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Job Requirements/Qualifications/Experience: Minimum years of experience: 10

Has experience in the building industry or similar industry and has construction safety experience on large projects.

Membership in a recognized professional safety society such as the Institute of Industrial Safety Officers is desirable.

Audits compliance with Saudi Aramco Loss Prevention requirements to minimize losses to Saudi Armco, the public and the contractor.

Prepares and implements an effective loss control program and safety program including corrective action procedures.

Must have thorough knowledge of international safety standards and procedures.
