The Role
The Senior Systems Engineer's role is to manage the connectivity of infrastructure systems including storage, backups, servers , databases and virtualisation systems to ensure the stable operation of the organisation's IT assets. This includes configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimising all new and existing hardware, software and virtualisation requirements.
Responsibilities will include:
- Designing and managing storage, backup recovery ( EMC / Networker / Data domain / Brocade / Recover point) solutions
- Managing the infrastructure services for the business to ensure maximum availability and performance at all times
- Inventory management and documentation of practice server, storage/backup and virtualisation systems asset management, including maintenance of server, storage/backup and virtualisation systems component
- Managing and ensuring the optimal operation of all infrastructure services including servers, SAN, backups/recovery/archiving technologies, data cloning/replication and database systems.
- Deploying methodologies for testing server, storage and virtualisation systems performance and providing performance statistics and reports
- Building the environment from scratch, managing standards, design, implementation of storage, backup recovery services
- Managing the infrastructure services for the business to ensure maximum availability and performance at all times
- Server / application / database side activities, handle critical situation and recovery
- Patch management and managing multi-data-centers
- Handing complex environments with different technologies from solution / application point of view in Heterogeneous environment.
Requirements
- University degree in the field of computer science/engineering or information systems (Master's degree preferred)
- Certifications in storage technologies including SAN Storage/Fabric or Backup systems
- Certifications in server technologies at least 1 of Solaris, Linux or Microsoft Windows
- Certifications in virtualisation technologies in either Hyper-V, VMware, OVM or Xen
- Certification in ITIL and Security is desirable
- At least 3-7 years' work experience managing and configuring enterprise server and virtualisation environments (server, storage, application and Desktop)
- Ability to understand and resolve block, file , fabric switches, backup S/W knowledge
- Experience in managing or maintaining a large server environments, especially those in multiple data centers with active/active and active/passive configurations
- Proven experience in network design and development
- Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices
- Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards
- Proven project planning and management experience
- Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
- Good working knowledge of ITIL, especially Systems Management practices, ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 best practices and standards and how they are applied to IT
