The RoleThe RoleManage the end to end shipping requirements process for the import & export of bulk raw commodities in accordance with company policy & procedures. 1. Analyse international shipping markets to understand market fluctuations & vessel availability ensuring that best price is achieved when selecting a charter to fix for shipment of bulk raw commodities to & from our company. 2. Liaise with trading team to determine shipment requirements in order to plan type of vessel to utilise for shipment; type of shipping charter to select to manage costs versus risk; current placement of vessels & where the vessels need to go & return to, in order to ensure there are no delays in collection/delivery of raw commodities which could result in a gap in supplies to customers or charges being incurred from shipping companies/port authorities 3. Negotiate & confirm contractual terms for shipping requirements with shipping companies ensuring risk is managed & credit terms are flexible in order to protect company interests whilst maximising cash flow within the company. 4. Plan & manage time charter shipments, arrange fuel requirements for vessels & liaise with external third party company responsible for monitoring ship performance in order to ensure that fuel is obtained at the best possible price & is available when the ship docks & that ship performance is monitored to ensure it meets the terms set out in the shipment contract. 5. Monitor the progress of all shipments & liaise with vessel owners, port authorities, trading team & operations team to ensure that any delays are communicated in order to reduce the risk of demurrage charges once in port. 6. Manage the disputes process relating to any delays with time charters & any ship damage ensuring settlements are made in a timely fashion with minimum impact on the business. 7. Monitor insurance claims & negotiate annual insurance premiums in order to seek competitive insurance premiums & better coverage terms. 8. Build relationships with shipping suppliers to ensure vessel availability & develop flexible payment terms to maximise the cash flow within the business & ensure shipping requirements are met. |
RequirementsRequirementsBachelors degree in business management/logistics is essential Membership of ICS or equivalent experience is essential - Fellow of ICS would be an advantage Minimum 10-15 years previous international experience within a large scale shipping/charterer office & experience of working in large import/export firm responsible for shipping or working for a large ship owner or in a charter office with time charter vessels Extensive knowledge of shipping industry & charter fixing requirements Ability to liaise with multiple internal & external agencies Excellent commercial awareness Effective planning & implementation & time management |
