The Role


The Role


To ensure that the construction works are being effectively monitored by the Construction Supervision Team and carried out by the contractor. Under general supervision, performs routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others and that the approved methods statements are being followed. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Document non-conformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities are usually concentrated in one of the following areas: soils, concrete, mechanical, or electrical

Key Tasks and Duties:
Conducts inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract specifications; and if the construction supervision responsibilities (of others) are being followed and may include any of the following depending on the discipline required:
- Witnesses civil and structural tests, such as soil compaction, moisture content, aggregation, graduation, concrete slumps, air entrainment, concrete compression, lines and grades survey, bolt torques, and concrete coring.
- Witnesses destructive and nondestructive tests on metals and other materials through magnalflux, dye-penetrant, radiographic, tension, paint thickness, and resistivity.
- Performs surveillance of underground piping to ensure tightness, bedding, and grade.
- Inspects and monitors piling installation to ensure Location: and bearing.
- Validates piping systems, including P&ID checks and hydraulic or other pressure tests.
- Verifies equipment alignment and balancing operations.
- Inspects electrical installations to ensure proper grounding, circuit integrity, and adherence to standard regulations.
- Performs continuous inspections of painting and insulation to ensure thickness and coverage continuity.
- May administer welder qualification tests.

Provides general inspection on all construction tasks to ensure professional workmanship.

Identifies to the Construction Manager and/or Assistant Construction Manager the need for additional testing or repeat testing as required.

Participates in the development of quality control reports and procedures.

Participates in development of job safety practices and may conduct tool box meetings.

May support and review the Contractor's request for payment for administrative compliance.

Maintains daily site diary.

Assists with review of interim progress payments as required.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as determined by the Construction Manager and/or Assistant Construction Manager.

Requirements


4-year degree in the type of works to be inspected and a minimum of 5 years of relevant site inspection work experience. Depending on years of relevant work experience above the minimum relevant years, a lesser degree, or non-degreed individual may be considered on merit if the individual has 10+ years demonstrated site inspection experience on large construction projects.
