Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Specialist - Cancer Registry is responsible for managing data entry and follow-up for patients who have been diagnosed and/or are receiving treatment for cancer. She/he disseminates information in accordance with Qatar laws and regulations, facility policy and professional ethics. The individual is responsible for ensuring that all information is correctly abstracted and entered for patient care evaluation studies and cancer reports as needed by the Manager - HIM.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manages the newly abstracted cancer cases in the medical records systems accurately and in a timely manner
- Abstracts cancer registry data, including patient demographics, diagnostic procedures, history and extent of disease, therapeutic procedures and treatment, physician, diagnosis, and related information from medical records.
- Ensures all the information on treatment, follow up are accurately captured in the medical records system.
- Conducts patient care evaluation studies and develops cancer reports as required by the Manager
- Ensures all requests are logged accurately for information and disseminates information in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Provides required data to the Manager HIM for collaborating with other health care providers (hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare institutions) to obtain patient records and patient information on cancer patients.
- Liaises with Coding team to effectively capture the coding requirements for all medical records for cancer patients.
- Supports clinicians, epidemiologists and other researches in cancer related studies and research, providing guidance in the use of the tumor registry data system
- Provides support with compiling and providing cancer related statistical reports on request from medical staff, researchers, and administrative staff.
- Maintains the confidentially of all medical records.
- Adheres to Sidras standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Requirements

- Bachelors degree in relevant field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a tumor registry or health information management capacity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of oncology staging and coding schemes.
- Demonstrated skills in analyzing tumor registry and supporting cancer studies.
- Good communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
