The Role


POSITION OVERVIEW:

Designs, implements, and maintains one or more complex SharePoint platforms in a multi SharePoint Farm environment. Handles SharePoint administration, patch management, security, documentation and statistical usage methods. Designs system architecture and is involved with the design and implementation of new SharePoint environments or modifications to existing SharePoint environments. Often works in all phases of SharePoint management, at the highest level. Works with end users to define requirements and develop SharePoint site content specifications.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Directly manages at least one complex SharePoint farm (one with multiple site content, large volume of site content and with complex site parts.

• Maintains records of SharePoint usage, trends, maintenance and other issues; generates statistics, trends and creates reports based on SharePoint use and data requirements.

• May supervise SharePoint Administration staff in implementing moderately sophisticated or complex SharePoint sites and tools.

• Specifies levels of SharePoint access and assigns access to authorized IT staff and end users.

• Trains SharePoint users and works directly with users to improve their effectiveness in using and leveraging SharePoint sites

• Consults with end users to identify issues, questions and problems with SharePoint and to develop effective solutions.

• Recommends standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of SharePoint software and tools and to protect vulnerable information.

• Develops methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial SharePoint tools to fit specific needs.

• Uses SharePoint management system manuals, industry standards and other information to develop processes and procedures for making changes to the SharePoint environment.

• Plans and configures the physical SharePoint environment for SharePoint farms.

• Designs replication strategy and SharePoint backup-and-restore process for SharePoint farms.

• Plans, schedules and tests standard SharePoint maintenance and updates.

• Recommends modifications and upgrades to existing complex SharePoint sites. Once approved, implements modifications and upgrades, delivering an end product that effectively meets the users' needs and is delivered within budget and on schedule.

• Tests SharePoint environments to assure SharePoint sites are working at optimum capacity, to correct errors and to make necessary modifications.

• Plans, coordinates and implements security measures to safeguard information in the site content files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.

• Schedules, coordinates and supervises the installation, testing and implementation of new products, improvements to the existing SharePoint systems or installation of new SharePoint environments.

• Works as part of a project team to coordinate SharePoint development and determine scope and limitations of projected modifications and upgrades as well as new SharePoint environments. May lead technical teams on specific projects and activities, providing technical guidance and feedback to assigned team members.

• Maintains knowledge of industry trends in SharePoint and may recommend implementation of new or evolving technologies, presenting the business case for creating a new SharePoint system or using a new technology.

• May interact with vendors to review product offerings and to recommend vendor systems. Works with or monitors vendors in installing, testing, implementing and maintaining third-party products and services. Identifies questions, issues or problems and works to resolve them, referring them to higher level staff if necessary.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

4-year degree in Computer Science (or related curriculum) and at least 8-12 years of progressive experience in SharePoint application development and management.

Certifications:
Certified in the assigned SharePoint platform, such as MCTS: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Configuring.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

A thorough understanding of SharePoint architecture, administration and technology.

An advanced knowledge and significant experience in using standard SharePoint concepts, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of new technologies and current industry direction.

An excellent understanding of the Parsons SharePoint farms.

Ability to work effectively and with Parsons managers, team members and end users.

Written and oral English communication skills appropriate for the position, including the ability to speak with authority on technical issues in various professional settings and to persuade listeners regarding best approach to resolving user's problem (may include communication via telephone, in person, presenting to large groups, community events). Ability to write complex documents (may include policies and procedures as well as presentations). Communicates with a wide variety of individuals (employees and all levels of management) throughout the organization and outside of the organization (i.e. clients, vendors).

Good problem solving and analytical skills.

Ability to lead and support SharePoint administration staff members.
