Structural Engineer (Roads and Drainage)

Job description / Role

Atkins has been established in the Gulf for over 40 years, having first carried out design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967. The regional head office (Dubai) was established in 1979.

We provide a full range of design, engineering and project management services for buildings, transportation and other infrastructure programmes.

Atkins in the Middle East now employs around 2,000 staff serving Gulf clients across all market sectors from offices in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait City, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, and Sharjah.

We have 500 staff in Qatar and an impressive range and quality of projects including key advisor to the Central Planning Office (part of the Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning), the Doha West local roads and drainage program and the Design of the Red Line South Metro, as well as many smaller, but equally exciting projects and a substantial pipeline which is supported by our high profile brand within the Qatar market.

We are currently looking for a Structural Engineer to support our Roads and Utilities projects based in Qatar.

Responsibilities:
- To report directly to the Resident Engineer or the Assistant Resident Engineer, as may be directed
- To assure the quality of the works
- To ensure safe practices are carried out on site
- To liaise with the Contractor
- To review and assess the Contractors submissions including drawings, bar bending schedules, pre-stressing calculations and temporary works
- To supervise a small team of inspectors and surveyors
- To ensure daily site records are kept to a good standard by both self and team

Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Aspiration to obtain professional status
- 5-10 years post-graduation experience
- Experience of major highway projects, particularly highway structures
- Working knowledge of site safety, health & welfare
- Working knowledge of site construction techniques for bridge and highway structures
- Experience of bridge design techniques to AASHTO & British Standards

Technical Skills / Ability:
- Technically conversant with insitu, precast & post-tensioned concrete
- Technically conversant with drawings, BBS, stress/strain calculations for pre?stressing, etc. Awareness of survey requirements
- Technically conversant with design and construction of temporary works
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of the use of construction materials and material testing
- Ability to communicate at all levels to ensure ideas and issues are accurately transferred
- Clear and reliable use of written and spoken English
