Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our client is looking for a Structural Inspector. Within the Project Team based in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, and under the Structural Engineer’s responsibility, the Structural Inspector performs difficult and sometimes complex inspection tasks. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents non-conformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities are usually concentrated in one of the following areas: concrete, post tensioned beams, steel structures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the review of the contractor’s documents/shop drawings to flag and rectify any issues which may affect the stability or function of any structural components or systems;
• Monitoring all structural engineering aspects of the project to ensure compliance with approved and proper standards;
• Liaising with the Senior Structural Engineer and other Engineers and Managers to provide support and guidance as required;
• Inspects and monitors piling installation;
• Prepare daily reports and maintain an inspection diary;
• Review/approve formwork, rebar placement, finishing and curing of concrete.
• Assist with response to RFI’s that involve site operations or where the contract documents are clear on the intent;
• Coordinate material field testing services;
• Provides general inspection on all construction labour and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship;
• Liaising with the management of the various contractors to expedite submissions and approvals process.

Requirements

Candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Ability to take direction from supervisors and implement plans, policies, and practices as directed;
• Ability to refine existing planning and construction practices to improve both quality and quantity of work output;
• Skill in applying knowledge of the Civil Codes and all other applicable codes;
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in order to prepare reports and to maintain records;
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and to determine if there is a deviation from plan during the construction process;
• Ability to make decisions, recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness and tact in meeting new problems;
• Ability to read and interpret structural plans and specifications; ability to read, understand, and explain codes, ordinances, and regulations;
• Ability to plan and organize work load and to adjust assignments when necessary;
• Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially;
• Ability to detect and locate defective structural systems;
• Ability to perform on-site inspections which may require access where limited space is available;
• Ability to follow oral and written assignments and to ascertain facts through investigation;
• Ability to consult with contractors, crafts persons, and others in interpreting and securing compliance with the code;
• The employee is required to conduct field visits on a regular basis; exposure to the hot sun and outdoor elements will occur.

Experience/Qualification in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering;
• Must have a minimum of 4 - 5 years as a Structural Inspector on a multi- Million $
project.
