System Administrator

Job description / Role

Founded in 2005, it is now used by over 4 million individuals and 6,000 companies. To support our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced System Administrator to join our team in Dubai.

Reporting to the Team Lead, the System Administrator will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of a wide range of systems, hardware and software and related infrastructure.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Installing new and/or rebuilding existing servers and configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards, project and operational requirements
- Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
- Performing network maintenance & configuration, including firewalls, APs, etc.
- Managing and monitoring mass email sending system (postfix)
- Automation of server maintenance tasks
- Release management
- Maintaining system security & applying security policies
- Performing regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
- Maintaining business data, security and archiving processes
- Managing backups & system recovery procedures
- Analysing system logs and identifying potential issues
- System performance monitoring & optimisation
- Troubleshooting any reported problems escalated from IT team

Requirements

Essential:
- Demonstrable 3 years experience in a system administrator role
- Experience in maintaining Linux environments and in managing virtualised environments
- Proven technical knowledge of RedHat servers
- Experience of network infrastructure support
- Experience in managing and using server monitoring tools, such as -nagios, plunk, munin
- Experience in maintaining and setting up iptables, postfix, apache, sphinx
- Proven technical knowledge of MySQL servers
- Proven technical knowledge of desktop and server hardware
- Excellent technical problem solving skills, including identifying and addressing performance problems, system defects, hardware issues, etc.
- Degree from a leading university, preferably in the field of Computer Science, but other subjects will also be considered

Desirable:
- Working knowledge of puppet, vagrant, docker or other deployment automation tools
- Proven technical knowledge of Windows 7 & MS Office products
- Experience of managing VMware environments
