Technical Manager

The Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and economical operation of all the vessels in the fleet and ensure that they comply with all the Local and International rules and regulations.

Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure that all Company owned and managed vessels are operated in a safe, efficient and economical manner and in full compliance with Class and Statutory Regulations.
- Ensure that vessels Planned Maintenance System is being effectively operated and reported in the manner prescribed in the Companys Quality and Safety Management System
- Monitor and report on the departmental KPIs and their monthly updates.
- Maintain the classification status of the vessels together with Ship Managers.
- Guide the Ship Managers as required and provide technical advice and assistance when necessary so that the vessels continue to meet the standards and criteria required by Clients.
- Monitor and control the vessel dry docking repairs so as to ensure their timely and in-budget completion.
- Ensure that all vessels are regularly inspected and to compile reports indicating the current status of the vessels equipment, machinery and structure.
- Ensure all repairs are planned in advance and completed in a timely and satisfactory manner and within the vessels set operational budget.
- Work with Ship managers, Repair yard management, Sub-Contractors, class and administration to ensure all works are carried out in accordance with agreed specifications and time schedules.
- Review reports submitted by Ship managers as required, detailing in service repairs, dry-docking repairs and surveys, including costs incurred during such activities. To supervise the docking repairs done on the vessels and check that the vessels are delivered back on time as planned.
- Look into advancements to vessel specifications and plan out and execute such projects.
- Ensure that the training needs of the various personnel within the department are identified and then organise the required trainings in liaison with HR department.
- Monitor and record fuel and lubrication oil consumption on a daily basis.
- Prepare monthly reports for the Operations Manager on technical performance and machinery appraisals of vessels.
- Liaise with manufacturers and consultants in relation to new concepts and innovations and to work with manufacturers in relation to technical contractual performance.
- Provide general assistance to both Marketing and Marine Operations in respect of technical matters.
- Carry out accident/incident investigation and give recommendations for effective close out.
- Prepare budgets for technical maintenance of vessels and effectively monitor the expenses incurred.
- Issue Internal Technical Bulletins to all vessels when required.

Requirements

- Degree in Engineering or equivalent is a must
- Class I Chief Engineers License (Unlimited)
- 1-2 years sailing experience as a vessel Chief Engineer
- 1-2 years shore based experience in senior fleet management position
- DP vessel operational experience preferred
- Effective Management Skills.
- Planning and Scheduling Skills for repairs, PMS and dry dockings.
- Report writing skills.
- Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills in English are a must.
