The Riyadh Metro is the flagship public transportation project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In order for it to be a success, the project will require the active leadership support of strong design and technical project teams.

The Trackwork Engineer will be a key part of a wider design review team, part of the PMCM team, that is responsible for the designs submitted by the Design Build (DB) contractors.

The Trackwork Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of the track design review as per contract requirements and specifications. They will also be responsible for ensuring the integration of the trackwork design by the DB contractors with the overall project plan, and will support the construction team to ensure that the completion of the trackwork is performed in a safe manner, within budget, on schedule, while promoting effective working relationships with a diversity of stakeholders.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for reviewing and approving the design-build contractors trackwork engineering designs to support the obligation to maintain and improve the safety and ride quality of the track
- Ensuring track design compliance with standards, details design, technical specifications and procedures, factory acceptance test (FAT), method statements, planning and the QA/QC system including quality procedures
- Ensuring that the project design procedures are correctly applied and the track design is developed so it can be assembled, installed, tested and maintained safely
- Providing resolution for technical trackwork design problems and coordinating application of solutions
- Reporting directly and regularly to supervisors on the progress and status of design activity and report any deviations from targets, schedules, quality and delays
- Identifying and managing project risks to minimize exposure to financial and legal liabilities
- Ensuring application of agreed quality control and health & safety procedures
- Performing on-site inspections during construction and coordinates design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers
- Coordinating with other project disciplines including structural, architectural and systems aspects of the project
- Liaise with the client and other relevant parties to be consulted or advised with respect to design execution

Requirements

- Degree (or professional qualification) in engineering or construction-related field
- Minimum 10 years experience on heavy civils projects
- Solid track record in rail track work design on commuter rail, metro, light rail projects or related projects
- Excellent knowledge of international railway standards (AREMA, UIC, EN etc.) and industrial practices
- Proficient in the design parameters of track alignment viaduct, cut/cover and underground
- Familiar with the construction methods and maintenance procedures for various track components
- Excellent technical knowledge encompassing floating track slab design, direct fix system design, switch and crossing design
- Extensive experience in trackwork interfaces issues with the traction power and signalling systems, tunnel installations, noise and vibration issues, as well as in the interfaces with structural issues
- Basic knowledge in various aspects of railway engineering such as surveying, railway operations, signaling and control, railway safety, vehicle gauging etc.
- Experience in computer aided design packages such as Microstation, AutoCAD, InRoads, Bently Rail Track etc
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to work well within a multi-disciplined, multicultural project team

- GCC experience
