Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Trade Finance Accountant plays a crucial role in managing the trade finance documentation and balance of payments by adhering to the mutually agreed terms and conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Liaise with Procurement department at the time of placing orders with LC terms

2. Liaise with banks for application and issuance of LCs/LGs

3. Liaise with Sales department at the time of signing sales orders where LGs are a requirement or where Export LCs are to be received

4. Prepare and submit LC and LG applications to banks after properly verifying the details and having them in line with supplier/customer requirements

5. To ensure the trade documents are greatly in favour of the company to the extent possible

6. To work towards further developing the application and update process, and move towards making it online

7. To keep a proper record/database of all trade finance documentation including but not limited to:
a. LCs
b. LGs
c. Acceptance advises
d. Track of expected shipment, delivery and payment dates as per LC terms
e. Outstanding and utilized facilities
f. Monitor closing of LCs and LGs to effectively manage company’s credit lines
g. Work together with accounts in treasury management to ensure sufficient funds are available to retire any upcoming payments under LCs

8. Management reporting

9. Prepare timely LC forecast and capital reports for management

10. Monthly supplier reconciliation to ensure payments and invoices are adhering to LC terms and conditions

11. Document control both internally and externally

12. Have hands on accounting experience in accounts payables, accounts receivables, general ledger, cash and bank reconciliation and other general accounting functions

13. Perform any other duties as required by the Finance Manager

Requirements

Skills:

1. Intermediate to advance MS Excel

2. Maintain database

3. Report design and implementation

4. Detail oriented

5. Good communication skills (written and verbal)

6. Strong negotiation skills, especially with banks

7. Vendor management skills

8. Persuasive and result oriented

9. Well versed with Incoterms, UCP guidelines and other relevant standards

10. Accounting / financial systems


Education:

1. Bachelors in Accounting

2. Any additional certification in international trade finance would be an added advantage
