Transmission & Transport (IP) Optimization Engineer

Job description / Role

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Technical delivery of Pro-active & Reactive Audits & Optimization for Transmission (focus is Microwave + Optical) & IP Transport domains (these are the specific focus domains for the individual)
The individual will be part of an e2e Optimization Team, under MS (Managed Services). The e2e Optimization team will focus on the complete Mobile Radio Network e2e Optimization which includes the following domains (in addition to Transmission & IP Transport)
Mobile Radio = all RAT’s i.e. 2G, 3G, Lte
Packet Core / EPC (Evolved Packet Core)
CS (Circuit Switched) Core
The individual will leverage various available Optimization Tools e.g.
-Reports (using PM = Performance Management statistics / counters)
-Active Probes / Test Protocols (e.g. TWAMP, Y.1731) for L2, L3 testing
-Probes & Packet Captures (from various PS Core & EPC interfaces)

Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor or Masters of Engineering / Science (BSc, BE or MSc, ME) in Electrical / Telecommunications.
Formal Certifications on Transport (IP) side would be a distinct advantage (offered by prime vendors like Cisco, Juniper)
Work experience:
Several years of experience in Transmission & IP Transport network planning and performance optimization functions
Solid in the use of Softwares & Applications (esp. Databases), OSS / NMS Applications, Trace / Probing tools for purposes of Analyses & Troubleshooting
Experience in Network & Service Quality measurement & reporting
Strong knowledge of Protocols & Network Architectures especially related to Transmission (e.g. SDH, MPLS-TP, OTN/DWDM, GPON, TDM/E1’s etc.) & Transport domains (e.g. IP, MPLS, Ethernet etc.)
Strong understanding & ability to apply OSI Model, Use ITU-T, ETSI, 3GPP, IETF standards & recommendations (e.g. in an e2e implementation of Dynamic QoS Differentiation = Quality of Service)
Specific Ericsson experience will be a benefit. Multi-vendor experience (in addition to Ericsson) will be a major plus (in these 02 domains of Transmission & IP Transport). Following list contains the infrastructure landscape + tools at present relevant to the specified domains;
Microwave Radios: Ericsson Mini Link (TN primarily, E, CN, HC)
SDH: Marconi OMS ADM’s
E1: Ericsson SPO
Routers: ex-Redback (SE1200 etc.), Ericsson SSR
Tools: ENiQ, SO-EM, Global Mapper
Probe (PS Interfaces): Alcatel Lucent WNG (Wireless Network Guardian)
Probe (CS Interfaces): Anritsu + MasterClaw Data Warehouse
Active Probes: Accedian
Other Tools: Wireshark, Databases (SQL etc.), MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint) ex-Marconi Long Haul SDH
