Transport Modeller

Job description / Role

The successful candidate will be working within a highly skilled team. The team is currently busy with highway and public transport modelling, micro simulation modelling, scheme appraisal and development assessment work for a major Qatari project.

Core Functions:
- Providing support on both macro and micro modelling projects
- Transport model development. Tasks may include but not limited to model building, calibration/validation, model testing and auditing, checking and analysis of model outputs
- Delivery to timescales, budget and technical quality
- Preparation of technical reports and proposals for project
- Attendance at internal and client team meetings
- Direct reporting to external and internal clients
- Contribute to our process of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
- To work to a high technical standard.

Requirements

- A degree (or equivalent) in a numerate or transport discipline with 10 years work experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to independently devise study methodology
- Proven ability to build, calibrate and validate transport models with minimum supervision
- Knowledge of transport policy and appraisal issues and techniques
- Detailed knowledge and experience in the use of at least one of the following modelling packages: SATURN, VISUM, VISSIM, Paramics
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools, particularly MS Excel
- Ability to work under pressure

Desirable Skills:
- Transport related MSc
- Experience in Vehicle Actuated Programming (VAP)
- Experience in GIS techniques
- Some experience in VBA programming or similar and experience of programming bespoke analysis tools
- Professional membership of a relevant institution
