Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Ultrasonographer, as a part of the Radiology Department, is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing diagnostic examinations using sonography within Mediclinic City Hospital.

Key responsibilities of the role:
- Perform requested sonographic examinations, unaided and within guidelines as set out by department policies and procedures
- Assist in more complex ultrasound examinations under the supervision of a Radiologist
- Support and reassure patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs
- Record patient information, access clinical information, plan daily caseload and carry out statistical analysis in the hospital information system
- Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
- Assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area/department.
- Check equipment on a regular basis and reports equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member
- Maintain patient schedules to ensure a smooth flow within the department
- Provide in-service education regarding sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the health care team
- Maintain patient records and confidentiality in accordance with Hospital policies and statutory regulations
- Participate in departmental on-call rota as the radiology service demands
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Licensing & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a Radiology or Medical Imaging program from an accredited institution
- Post Graduate course of study in the speciality of sonography/ultrasound
- A current license, registration or certificate to practice as an ultrasonographer
- Licensure/certification in country where the qualification/s was obtained

Specialized Skills/Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of Ultrasound principles
- A minimum of 3 years experience working as an Ultrasonographer
- Demonstrated competence in all sonographic procedures
- Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment
- Ability to evaluate sonograms in order to acquire appropriate diagnostic information
- Ability to evaluate diagnostic sonograms, laboratory results, patient history and medical records, and adapt sonographic examination as necessary
- Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed
- Ability to evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic information to the attending physician
- Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to follow established departmental procedures

Generic Skills/Abilities/Experience Required:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, doctors and other hospital staff
- Knowledge of, and working background on, RIS/PACS
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated competence in working autonomously
- Fluency in written and spoken English; Arabic would be an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Experience in the delivery of information to patients and their families
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Demonstrated commitment to developing and improving personal education skills appropriate to the position
