Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Urban Planner will provide technical and professional support in the execution of urban and regional planning projects in Oman and the wider gulf region. The candidate would play a key role in the development of the Atkins' planning and urban design business in Oman. The Urban Planner will work closely with other senior Urban Planners/Designers as well as other internal/external disciplines. He or she would also provide support to the team in Oman in business development initiatives, bid preparation and marketing

The Urban Planner will be a member of the master planning team in Oman and provide Urban Planning services to external and internal clients as part of the Atkins' Middle East master planning team. To be involved in strategic planning studies, urban master planning and urban design projects in the Middle East.

Responsibilities:
Support in technical and fee proposals for urban and regional planning projects and other major infrastructure projects where appropriate
Working as a planner in medium and large scale projects involving multi-disciplinary teams
May be required to travel within the Middle East region on projects in a variety of geographical locations
Other duties as requested from time to time

Requirements

Technical Competencies

Essential

Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Urban Planning
5 years solid experience in urban and regional planning projects
Preferable to have relevant experience in the Middle East with an understanding of the Arabic urban morphology and culture and/or appropriate design standards in the region
Ability to convey planning concepts and solutions in real time to clients and others via written reports, maps and drawings

Desirable

Working towards Chartered/Qualified status preferable (e.g RTPI or other national equivalents)

Must have excellent interpersonal skills, team player and have customer focus
Must have excellent written and oral expression capability and be very comfortable with the core of his/her skill set in Urban and Regional Planning
Ability to solve problems by thinking laterally and be able to understand the needs and requirements to provide planning solutions in a developing country
Must be able to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team environment
Able to be flexible and adapt to working in a demanding Middle East environment
