Web Designer

Job description / Role

Objective: Develop and maintain web sites for INDEX Holding and its member companies’ internet presence in line with INDEX Holding’s strategic plan, vision, mission, values goals and objectives.

Main Responsibilities:
•Able to address HTML and scripting compatibility issues between different browsers and computing platforms.
•Able to understand and contribute to functional requirements and translate them into technical design and development projects.
•Able to clearly document features, technical specifications, and infrastructure requirements for self-produced technical work and job processes.
•Able to continuously monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies as they emerge.
•Write modular, documented and efficient code
•Design solutions using a variety of code standards, such as hypertext mark-up language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, and Flash, or using code-generating programs, such as Dreamweaver
•Develop simple web applications; such as user registration, online shopping cart using Microsoft Windows Server 2003, SQL, and ASP/ASP.Net
•Test the site for functionality in different browsers and at different resolutions ensuring web sites are accessible from a variety of different environments
•Import word processing files into electronically-designed page layouts
•Think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts
•Manage all sites, allocating the relevant amount of time while meeting tight time constraints and tight deadlines
•Liaise with project managers and team members to discuss objectives, requirements and reasonable deadlines for the job, interpret their needs and develop sites to suit their purposes
•Proofread and edit text to produce accurate and high quality work
•Work well in a team, with other designers, account managers, and IT managers
•Troubleshoot and repair bugs and problems
•Assess new standards, technologies and trends, and formulates strategies and plans for future enhancement of web sites
•Develop, research, write/edit and create layout for new sections/features
•Keep abreast of developments in IT, particularly web development standards and software
•Able to contribute ideas and to critique team member’s work and suggest improvements

Requirements

University qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Specialist knowledge : Experience with common computing platforms (Windows, Macintosh)
Experience with search engine applications and database integration with web pages is preferred
Knowledge and experience with website design, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, database development, relational database design, and database protocols
Experience in the creation of web-based applications using Apache / Microsoft tools & technologies: IIS, ASP, MTS, Index Server, PHP, JavaScript/VBScript, Visual Interdev
Knowledge and experience with installing, configuring, maintaining, tuning, analyzing and optimizing websites in the NT environment
