Purpose
* The role provides specialist expertise in the area of Pipeline engineering and Maintenance, Inspection and Corrosion Control in the Infrastructure across the entire Company pipeline network. The position is allocated in the new UIP/7 section, which is part of Pipeline System & Projects Department (UIP). As such, the Senior P/L Maintenance Engineer supports the new pipeline maintenance, inspection and corrosion contract team in making sure the integrity work is carried out safely, advising project teams and assets integrity engineers on pipeline maintenance and repairs techniques.
* Company recently awarded 5 years pipeline maintenance contract to a local community contractor and the holder is required to support and provide technical guidance to a team of Company Site Representative's (CSR's) in Interior, to help the new contractor to execute work in safe manner.
* The position spans all activities from Front-End conceptual studies (pipeline maintenance / repair related) to commissioning and operational phase, ensuring that the specified materials selection, corrosion mitigation, corrosion monitoring and inspection strategies are technically sound and acceptable. The senior P/L Maint Eng has a key role ensuring that critical activities following these strategies are implemented, in order that the pipeline meets PDO's intended field life.
* The holder is also responsible for identifying new Pipeline related technologies for implementation in support of PDO’s growth program, pipeline refurbishment program and advising on opportunities to reduce cost by introducing new technologies mainly pipeline repair, maintenance and integrity related. Also provide assistance and support to critical activities such as P/L shutdowns, IP inspection, mothballing and emergency response. planning
Accountabilities
* Provide technical expertise, policies, procedures, standards, and technical review capabilities in the area of Pipeline engineering and maintenance and repairs including technical audits and incident reviews on the new and existing maintenance/inspection contracts.
* Participate in PDO's drive to enhance its asset integrity both from a design as well as an operational point of view for all the pipeline network system. Work closely together with PDO's maintenance function (UOM) and support initiatives initiated corporately, such as Total Reliability Maintenance.
* Thoroughly check Participate in HAZOP's and design reviews of consultant and contractor generated designs, specifications and interfaces pertaining to pipeline maintenance/repairs to ensure compliance to Oman legislation and Group PDO code & standards
* Act as Coach and Mentor to young Pipeline Engineering professionals via EMPDS. Identify and review new pipeline repair techniques and opportunities for Pipeline engineering solutions and modifications as a result of personal initiatives, internal and external studies.
* Take part in Discipline activities in the SIEP Technical and Operational Excellence Forums and Surface Global Networks to exchange knowledge, best practice and improve global health of the discipline within EP on pipeline maintenance related activities. Work closely together with discipline focal points in PDO for pipelines and mechanical equipment.
* Ensure that the entire maintenance and inspection of the pipelines are carried out by the new contractor as per plan specification and as per HSE and QA/QC requirements.
* Ensure materials selected for repairs or replacements of pipes are in line compatible with PDO and international standards. Work closely together with PDO Materials and Corrosion engineers to ensure original material selection philosophy is met.
* Maintain contact with all four PDO Oil and Gas asset teams on pipeline maintenance, inspection and repair activities, including relevant technical matters.
* Maintain contact with PDO Materials and Corrosion team on technical issues to ensure up-to-date information, company experience and past experience are put in place prior to carrying out any inspection or repairs. Ensure maintenance experience from PDO's existing pipelines is made available in material selection of new designs.
* Where possible generate and stimulate cost saving improve effectiveness of routine and non routine maintenance activities, without compromising HSE, technical integrity and quality.
* Support the new maintenance contractor in making sure the right resources and equipments are in place and the maintenance activities is executed as per the contract requirements
* Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any pipeline failures and follow up the implementation of the RCA recommendations.
Dimensions
The Pipeline Inspection and Maintenance team will support the entire all PDO Oil and Gas assets in executing internal and external pipeline inspection and maintenance activities and provide technical support on technical integrity.
Special Challenges
* Applying best practices in managing ageing onshore pipeline and flow-lines facilities. Deal with a broad spectrum of technical and commercial issues and uncertainties, which must be engineered and managed to enable quality decisions to be made. To improve the level of technical HSE in PDO’s designs and operations to achieve and exceed Group minimum standards.
* Dealing with a new in-experienced pipeline maintenance contractor who are first time executing such a big pipeline maintenance contract in PDO and same time part of their scope to supervise and manage a less experience local community contractor.

Petroleum Development Oman is the foremost exploration and production company in the Sultanate.
