Job description / Role
PURPOSE:
To manage and supervise the operation & maintenance of undersea cables in an efficient and cost effective manner.
CONTEXT:
Undersea cables provide international telecoms & TV services between Qatar and other countries. The Section also provide supplement and back up the Satellite earth station.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
•Supervise all activities of Undersea Cables
•Define architectural and structural requirement of Undersea Cables international gateways.
•Direct the technical evaluation and economic impact assessment of new equipment
•Provide guidelines for network planning, Security Framework, network automation and technology deployment.
Develop and negotiate business cases in support of next generation network migration
to meet growth, replacement and new service/revenue requirements.
•Implement guidelines for technology deployment that are need based and consistent with network strategy, economic analysis and operation impact assessment.
•Prepares Annual budget, monitors expenditures and takes appropriate actions on any variations.
•Liaise with all departments and administrations to implement various operation plans.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
•Operation and maintenance cost of Undersea Cables Terminal equipment
•Number of faults and overall downtime of undersea cable terminal equipment .
Requirements
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
•Ten years experience in the field of Cable Transmission and other telecommunication system.
•Administration experience in the supervision of employees
•Experience in a Telecommunication company preferred.
•Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration and management
ROLE --BASED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications or equivalent
SKILLS
TECHNICAL & NON- TECHNICAL
•Requires vast managerial skills with adequate knowledge and background on Submarine cables and in various other communication technologies
•Skill to establish goals and objectives
•Skill to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures
•Skill to communicate ideas and instruction clearly and concisely
•Ability to clearly define and document project scope using business terminology
