To support our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our team in London.

Reporting to the Team Lead, the Database Administrator will be responsible for providing the planning, coordination, utilisation and administration of MySQL and NoSQL databases, network databases, schema migration, other file organisation and access methods. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring appropriate definition, organisation, security, integrity, operational efficiency, operational support, scheduling and documentation of the databases.

Key responsibilities will include:

Assessing and developing long-term strategic goals for databases
Working with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures
Designing and implementing redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets
Conducting research and making recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
Creating models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones
Installing and configuring relevant components to ensure secure database access as well as database consistency and integrity
Responding to and resolving database access and performance issues
Monitoring database system details within the database, including execution time, and implementing efficiency improvements
Monitoring, optimising and allocating physical data storage for database systems
Monitoring data quality and consistency and proposing improvements
Planning and coordinating data migrations between systems
Developing, implementing and maintaining change control and testing processes for modifications to databases
Creating required reports in response to business user needs
Performing database transaction and security audits
Establishing appropriate end-user database access control levels
Developing routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use

Requirements

Essential

Demonstrable 3 years experience in database administration
Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting MySQL databases
Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
Working knowledge of storage networks and file systems
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices
Strong technical documentation skills
Degree from a leading university, preferably in the field of Computer Science, but other subjects will also be considered

Desirable

Linux system administration
Experience managing databases for high traffic web applications
Web server management
