Employment: Full Time

A full time Science Lecturer is required to co-deliver the six science modules of Physics, Biology and Chemistry to Medical Commencement Programme (MCP)students.

The MCP is a 1 year, full-time programme designed to equip students with a greater knowledge of general science subjects, study skills, medical English and research skills. Additionally, it aims to provide students with the appropriate knowledge to bridge the gap between second level education and that of a third level medical university. On successful completion of the Medical Commencement Programme students can progress to the Foundation Year of the Medical Programme.

Main responsibilities:
- To deliver high quality science lectures, tutorials and laboratories in Biology, Physics and Chemistry
- To continue the on-going development of the MCP, VLE site providing resources and information.
- To assist and advise students on all aspects of their science studies.
- To foster a student centered, integrated support process to help students attain their potential.
- To rapidly identify and refer students who are encountering problems to the relevant Cycle Director/Course coordinator and/or the Student Welfare Office.
- To provide a flexible service which responds to the needs of the students.
- To provide learning blocks to bridge the transition from secondary to third level learning.
- To facilitate individual and group learning sessions.
- To develop materials to facilitate student learning
- To develop online learning resources that complements the existing curriculum
- To produce original, high quality, needs based learning support teaching materials.
- To plan teaching sessions and complete relevant planning documentation.
- To develop appropriate assessment, mark and provide appropriate feedback within a given time frame.
- To record attendance.
- To mark examination papers according to established marking schemes.
- To provide the course coordinator with accurate and up-to-date information.
- To attend regular staff meetings and provide student progress feedback.
- To reflect on the success of delivered material and make appropriate changes.
- Complying with statutory legislation and University rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety.
- Representing the best interest of RCSI and RCSI Bahrain at all times.
- Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time.

Working Hours: Sunday - Thursday 8am - 4pm
Travel requirements: Occasional travel

Requirements

- Holder of a masters level qualification in science

Experience:
- Have Tertiary / Adult science education teaching experience or secondary level grades 11 and 12
- Have learning extensive communicative teaching experience and the had experience of the provision of academic support for young adults
- Ability to develop online materials
