Associate or Associate Director - Electrical - Glasgow or Edinburgh

Our Scotland Building Services (MEP) team is involved in a wide variety of challenging and exciting projects. Current and future workload includes listed civic and historical buildings, schools, higher education facilities, research and laboratories, healthcare and assisted care facilities, Energy sector infrastructure projects and high end residential projects.

We are currently looking for an experienced Associate or Associate Director, preferably with an electrical bias, to join our Scotland Building Services team in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office. The successful candidate will have an established business development track record within the central belt building services market.

Typically, the job holder will be responsible for building and owning existing and new customer relationships which deliver additional projects. They will be supported in work-winning activity by the wider Group and/or Director.

This purpose of this role is to enhance the Groups market knowledge and new business development activities, and provide proactive project leadership. This will be achieved through:

The strategic accountabilities of this role are defined as:
Contributing to the design and development of the MEP Business Unit Discipline Leaders medium to long term strategy.
Maintaining an accurate picture of current and future market trends in order to establish the work focus for the team leaders.
Championing and delivering the potential of collaborative multidisciplinary working offered by the organisation, by building and maintaining knowledge of the full range of Buro Happolds services, particularly across the Building Environments Business Stream.

The jobholder will need to be geographically mobile between the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices as frequent travel will be required.

Typical Responsibilities:
- Running multiple projects with the team, taking responsibility for the electrical engineering solutions while ensuring financial success.
- Develop and maintain relationships with related specialist disciplines e.g. security, ICT, Lighting etc.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Job Leaders and Design Managers
Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximizing opportunities for repeat business
- Actively identifying and converting leads to projects within the framework of the group marketing strategy
- Preparing Financial and Technical submissions/proposals; attending interviews
- Establish a clearly defined offer. Deliver better marketing, making us easy to sell. Improve use of digital media. Prioritise face to face contact for key work winners.
- Dynamic focus on new business in the regional marketplace; broadening coverage of high quality clients and projects across a range of market sectors.
- Promoting Buro Happolds integrated services to potential Clients.
- Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximizing opportunities for repeat business.
- Checking the teams project resource plans and effectively managing the teams overall resource requirements, liaising with other Associate Directors and teams
- Identification of and assisting the Group Director with short-listing/recruitment of permanent staff.
- Responsible for recruitment and release of electrical contract staff to meet resource plans
- Creating a sense of team belonging within the framework of the design office
- Ensure latest learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team.
- Undertaking high-level project technical/quality reviews of specifications, reports and drawings produced by the team
- Ensure latest professional standards are implemented
- Ensuring design rigor is delivered on each project, and in particular ensuring design QA processes are fully planned and implemented
- Support and lead engineering design excellence within the team and dissemination of best in class to rest of the Practice
- Organises project workshops to ensure that the wider expertise of the firm is available to the project
- Ensures that regular project reviews are organized within the team to ensure detailed checking of output in accordance with our QMS system.

Requirements

- Extensive building services experience in a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong track record of business development in the Building Services market.
- Excellent communicator (verbal, written, listening) and competent at presenting.
- Diverse sector experience.
- Electrical bias desirable but not essential
- Experience of working in a global matrix organisation.
- Chartered Engineer
- Degree educated and ideally Masters qualified in relevant subject(s)
- Willingness to travel extensively within central belt area.
