Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Main Purpose of the Job:
The Commercial Manager will be a senior member of the Team with input in to overall commercial strategy and delivery of the projects/programs that the individual is involved in.

Responsibilities:
The Commercial Manager is responsible for the overall cost and commercial performance of the projects/programs having good all-round pre-contract and post contract knowledge and experience with strong client facing, client management skills and experience with Program Management (experience with which is an advantage but not a must have):

- Ensuring the clients commercial position is properly considered in all client and project management decision making
- Leading the identification and implementation of procurement strategies
- Maintaining a clear picture of out turn cost in accordance with standard framework, by ensuring monthly cost reports fully and accurately reflects all contracts let, change, risks, opportunities and variation orders and reporting to senior client level
- Providing the client / project manager with a comprehensive picture of budget, commitment and payment at all times
- Providing the foundations for driving performance of consultants, contractors and the supply chain generally
- Maintaining positive supply chain behaviour by payment applications dealt with comprehensively with clarity and within contract timescales
- Identification of actions by client / project manager which potentially undermine the clients commercial position under the contract or are detrimental to delivery within agreed time, cost and quality parameters
- Resourcing against the needs of the programme, capability and fit
- Supporting delivery teams
- Career development of the team
- Providing advice and constructive feedback
- Providing innovate solutions to delivery
- Responsible for the overall commercial performance of the projects/program deployed on
- Drive Continuous Improvement and consistency of commercial processes
- Review/update/maintain commercial protocols and mechanisms
- Review/update/maintain a set of integrated policies, procedures, tools, trackers and system to consistently monitor and measure commercial activity across the programme
- Review/update/maintain standard procurement methods and maintain a procurement tracker
- Review/update/maintain central commercial trackers (payment, contract information tracker etc.

Requirements

- 15 years experience, ideally MRICS qualified or equivalent
- Experience of leading mega-projects / portfolios of construction
- Experience in team building and exceptional client relationship skills
- Ability to influence at all levels
- Flexible to changing requirements
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Ability to motivate and impart knowledge
- Commercial awareness in rapidly changing sector
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Understand the principles of programme management
- Act as technical advisor to the client
- Keep up to date with industry developments with respect to own discipline, other disciplines and engineering innovations and developments on a global scale
- Knowledge of recognised programme control principles (procurement, earned value management, risk management, contract administration, claims resolution and change control)
- Comprehend, analyse and assess budgets, cost plans, cash flows, consultant and contractor applications, and the change/variation process
- Initiate and support the technical capabilities of the team
- Challenge and seek to improve the project deliverables
- Drive innovation and better ways of working
