Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our Company requires a Safety Officer to support a contract for the management of excess U.S. government property in Afghanistan. The Safety Officer will be based in either Bagram or Kandahar, Afghanistan. This role will act as the Companys lead for ensuring that worksite conditions and operations are safe, healthy and free of hazards. The Safety Officer will develop, train and enforce a site- and contract-specific safety program, and perform corrective action and suggestions in response to the occurrence of safety or occupational health-related incidents.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute the planning, monitoring and evaluation of Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) safety programs
- Develop and apply methods to control or eliminate unsafe acts or conditions
- Plan inspections of facilities and worksites for safety, health and hygiene evaluations
- Conduct investigations into workplace safety incidents and provide recommendations for rectification and future mitigation
- Identify training needs for maintaining and implementing a documented training program
- Implement safety plans to meet U.S. Dept. of Defense, DLA and USFOR-Afghanistan regulations

Requirements

- Fluent in reading/speaking/writing in English
- Must be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Must have formal training in the area of industrial safety with a focus on torch/plasma cutters, forklifts, and heavy duty industrial equipment
- Experience in identifying, eliminating and controlling hazards arising from warehousing, transportation equipment, maintenance, chemicals and construction modifications
- Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate a fully developed safety and occupational health program
- Knowledge of physical characteristics and hazards associated with hazardous materials
- Knowledge of job hazard analysis and other analytical techniques to identify causes of worksite mishaps
- Knowledge of regulations regarding occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, and industrial safety requirements
