Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Dean will serve as the College of International Studies' primary academic and administrative spokesperson. This position is in charge of designing and executing academic and budgetary initiatives, recruiting professors, students, and administrative personnel, and maintaining the organizational structure that will serve and promote high-quality research, clinical, and instructional programs.

This position will be responsible for:

• Serves as chief executive and academic administrative officer of the College of International Studies by creating a vision and advancing the mission of the college, with responsibility for academic and development functions, personnel, general administration and management, and budget.
• Plans for the fiscal and material resources needed to offer the educational, research, and service programs of the college.
• Administers the college's educational, research, and public service programs.
• Consults and collaborates with faculty and administrators on decisions related to the academic affairs of the college.
• Recommends to the Vice President of Academic Affairs the appointments, promotions, and tenure of College of International Studies faculty members.
• Serves as the college's representative on various university policy and decision bodies and is the official representative of the college to external constituencies.
• Collaborates with individuals, groups, colleges, programs, alumni, and organizations within the university and the public at large to promote the goals of the college.
• Leads the college's development activities to promote the college's goals and vision.
• Assures compliance with the general policies and practices of AUIB.
• Responsible for the strategic planning and policy development activities of the college

Requirements

Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree from a recognized university in a college field, preferably in international law, conflict resolution, political economics, security studies, or public policy disciplines.
• a minimum of five years of experience working as a dean, associate dean, or department chair for faculty.
• Must be fluent in English and have strong communication abilities.
• A track record of encouraging excellence in research, teaching, and service, as well as a reputation for original scholarship.
• The ability to think strategically and form successful institutional alliances.
• Administrative experience, a high level of professional ethics, and excellent team-building abilities are required.
• Ability to effectively communicate the vision and goals of the college to students, staff, alumni, practitioners, external funding agencies, and other decision-making organizations.

About the Company

AUIB is an American-style, nonprofit university located next to the Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad. This large-scale, multi-million dollar project is funded by Iraqi and U.S. donors, both public and private. The university opens for students on Jan. 17, 2021, with the College of Arts & Sciences, College of International Studies, and the College of Business. Eventually, there will be 10 colleges at the university, including a College of Medicine.
