Job Title: Teaching Assistant (CAS)
Department: College of Arts and Sciences
Reports To: Faculty Members/Department Head

Position Overview: AUIB's College of Arts and Science is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable teaching assistant to support our faculty in delivering high-quality education across various scientific disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, coupled with a passion for teaching and student development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lecture Assistance: Attend lectures and assist faculty members in executing course tasks and activities.
• Student Guidance: Provide guidance and explanation to students during group sessions, recitation, and tutoring.
• Session Delivery: Conduct discussion and recitation sessions to bolster student comprehension and engagement.
• Grading Support: Assist in grading assignments, quizzes, exams, and projects, adhering to established instructions and rubrics.
• Office Hours: Maintain regular office hours to address student queries and offer additional academic support.
• Record Maintenance: Help in recording student attendance, grades, and monitoring class participation.
• Exam and Assignment Coordination: Assist in the organization and coordination of exams and assignment schedules.
• Course Material Development: Contribute to the development of course materials and projects.
• Professional Development: Participate actively in teaching assistant training and faculty meetings.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Master's degree from an accredited university in computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, or chemistry.
• At least 1 year of post-graduation teaching or tutoring experience in a college or university setting.

Skills:

• Proficient understanding and knowledge of the subject matter.
• Skilled in communicating complex concepts, designing compelling lectures, and fostering active learning environments.
• Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member and follow faculty guidance.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills are needed for seamless interaction with students and faculty.
• Familiarity with educational technologies, including learning management systems, is desirable.
• Flexibility in adapting to changing educational and technological trends while maintaining high quality in teaching.
• Commitment to professional conduct and maintaining the confidentiality of student records and information.

About the Company

AUIB is an American-style, nonprofit university located next to the Baghdad International Airport in Baghdad. This large-scale, multi-million dollar project is funded by Iraqi and U.S. donors, both public and private. The university opens for students on Jan. 17, 2021, with the College of Arts & Sciences, College of International Studies, and the College of Business. Eventually, there will be 10 colleges at the university, including a College of Medicine.
