Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our esteemed Client considered the pioneer in the banking phenomenon known as Islamic Finance or Shari’a Compliant Banking is looking to recruit A Principal Analyst Data Governance on a 12 month contract paid daily.

Under the direction of the Executive Manager – Enterprise Information Management, the jobholder will develop, implement and monitor information-related strategies, policies, standards and procedures. These activities will support the organization’s strategic direction and intent

The jobholder's responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following tasks:
- Primary responsibility for the implementation, management and evolution of a data governance competency within the bank.
- Primary responsibility for the development of information-related strategies, policies, standards and procedures for the enterprise.
- Working with the Metadata Analyst(s) towards the implementation and publishing of an Information Asset Catalogue containing definitions, standards and other relevant business and technical metadata for all information assets, both structured and unstructured.
- Establishing membership and training for a Data Governance Steering Council (DGSC).
- Establishing membership and training for a Data Stewardship Working Group (DSWG).
- Primary responsibility to facilitate DGSC agreement of data related priorities.
- Primary responsibility to facilitate DSWG agreement of standards, policies and procedures, and agreement for reference and master data values.
- Enabling, championing and participating in the monitoring of data quality against agreed upon standards.
- Primary responsibility to provide subject matter support for Audit & Compliance in designing and implementing mechanisms for monitoring and enforcement of information standards and policies.
- Primary responsibility for the support of projects and staff across all EIM-related disciplines: Master Data Management, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Data Architecture, etc.
- Contributing to the publication of a quarterly EIM status report.
- Managing the data governance related workload of junior staff.

The jobholder will work closely with and through all lines of business towards enhancing business return on information assets through maintenance and improvement of data quality and accessibility.

The jobholder will assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by his/her manager.

- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices by adapting international best practices to the local situation.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Follow all relevant policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Statements and Reports
- Primary responsibility for the preparation of timely and accurate status updates and reports to meet business requirements, policies and standards. In particular, quarterly reports are required that identify the training of business data stewards, the number of data standards that have been developed and approved, and the number of reference data tables that have been established.

Related Assignments
- Perform other related duties or assignments as directed.

Key Performance Indicators:
- The number of data standards for attributes across all subject areas in the organization, including but not limited to Party, Product, Agreement, Transaction, etc.
- The number of DGSC and DSWG meetings held during the year

Authority & Decision Making:
- Key decisions having significant impact on own function are referred to the direct in-charge manager for approval before implementation. The jobholder is expected to identify problems, assess alternative solutions, and recommend a preferred alternative to his/her manager.

The jobholder exercises financial authority as per the level established by management and stipulated in the authority matrix.

Requirements

- A university degree in Computer Science, Business Management, and/or equivalent degree and experience.
- Relevant certifications are desirable, such as but not limited to:
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
- Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP)
- Seven years of combined experience working in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Information / Data Governance,
- Data Architecture / Modelling,
- Metadata Management,
- Master Data Management.
- Five years of experience using SQL.
- Three years of experience in senior technical roles in Data Governance initiatives.
- Two years of experience in data quality profiling, monitoring and remediation.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
- Expert understanding of data modeling concepts, syntax and normalization.
- Exceptional facilitation and team building skills.
- Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional organization, planning and prioritization skills for his/her own workload and small teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and team-oriented manner with other leaders and team members.
- Exposure to mature SDLC and ‘Agile’ methodologies.
- Exposure to banking products, services and business processes.
- Awareness of applicable EIM-related laws and regulations.
- Bilingual, English and Arabic
- English language skill level is at least ‘IELTS Band 7 Good User’ or equivalent.

COMPETENCIES:

Behavioral
- Exceptional listening and confirmation skills.

Technical
- Expert SQL skills.

Shariah
- Awareness of Shariah-compliant financing is preferred but not essential.
