Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Under the instruction of teaching staff and Head of Department, the Teaching Assistant is expected to do part or all of the following.
- Assist the Faculty with their teaching duties, including: preparation of course materials, mentoring students in need of help and proctoring examinations, etc.
- Prepare and maintain classroom materials/resources/displays.
- Provide clerical and administrative support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, etc.
- Encourage student interaction and engagement with Faculty led activities.
- Support and supervise students in lessons in relation to learning strategies.
- Be aware of student problems and achievements and report to faculty as appropriate.
- Undertake student record keeping under the faculty’s supervision.
- Comply with ACK policies and procedures relating to student information confidentiality and data protection and report any concerns to the appropriate person.
- Prepare weekly reports on material covered, student attendance (for tutorial classes), and evaluation.
- Assist with class presentations, planning, grading quizzes, and preparing student evaluations.
- Provide individualized instruction during office hours.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements

- A relevant Master’s degree in Civil Engineering preferably with experience in university teaching, research or serving the professional industry.
- Microsoft office skills.
- Ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality.
- Fluent written and spoken Arabic & English Language proficiency.
- Excellent personal presentation and grooming.
- Excellent work ethic.

Desirable:
- Experience of working with students/learners.

Initially offering two-year diploma courses, ACK now has PUC approval to offer degree programs as well. A 2+2 course is available whereby students obtain their diploma in two years and can then continue, if they wish, to study for a further two years to obtain their degree. This arrangement is unique in Kuwait.
